And the 2014 Toy Hall of Fame inductees are…

SAN ANTONIO — Who’s up for some historic playtime? The Strong’s National Toy Hall of Fame has announced its 2014 inductees Thursday, and it’s a colorful trio at that. Iridescent bubbles, little green army men and the multicolored Rubik’s Cube have now joined the nation’s ultimate toy box in Rochester, New York.

The trio were picked from a dozen finalists, which include My Little Pony, the game Operation and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. You can see the winners and all 12 finalists in the slideshow above.

The 2014 inductees join some awesome company. The more than 50 toys already in the Toy Hall of Fame include alphabet blocks, Barbie, the Atari 2600 game system, “Star Wars” action figures, Crayola crayons, G.I. Joe, the Frisbee, LEGO bricks and the teddy bear.

Anyone can nominate a toy for annual induction into the Hall, but it takes a gaggle of experts (read: the luckiest people on the planet) to pick the winners. An internal museum advisory committee of curators and historians checks submissions to see which ones make the cut for selection. A national selection committee then reviews the finalists, with each member voting for his or her top pick for induction. The toys with the most votes enter the toy Valhalla.
