Sierra Leone: into the Ebola epicentre

As one of the Ebola epicentres, the district of Kailahun, in eastern Sierra Leone bordering Guinea, was put under quarantine at the beginning of August. ECHO expert Cyprien Fabre visited the distrtict which is home to the largest Ebola treatment and isolation centre ever erected. The 88 bed-facility set up by ECHO partner Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is full to capacity. In the same region, another ECHO partner, the Red Cross and its network of volunteers engage in another crucial task, namely social mobilisation, contact tracing and body management. 4 in 10 Ebola sufferers recover from the lethal disease and try to pick what's left of their lives in a region now cordoned off from the world.
