A little more than one year ago, I got to visit an ABB/Southern Company solar power plant in Nevada that uses solar trackers. I’m proud to say that I have finally edited and published most of the video footage I took at the power plant. Pablo Astorga, Solar Business Development Manager at ABB, is the person who is telling us about the project in the video below, and related matters. Thanks, Pablo!

The second video below is the more interesting one, imho. But I think both are worthy of a watch.

Full disclosure: my trip to Nevada was covered by ABB.

You say just over a year ago, so did they miscorrect when they changed from daylight savings in October ?

I would have thought the very first thing you would do with any tracker system is to have it run automatically, and isolated and immune to any such error.

Really interesting close up of an Array Tech plant.

    But…….

It looks like the plant is running 40-50 minutes ahead of itself!
The shadows indicate it’s about 11:45, the Sun just a tad East of due south.
But the panels are pointing slightly West, by 5 degrees or at a guess 30-40 minutes.

How did no-one notice this. How ?
    Maybe it’s precisely 1 hour out ?

    Very curious.
