Greg Abbott Crushes Wendy Davis in GOP Sweep
* Editor's note: this story has been updated throughout
Attorney General Greg Abbott, presiding over another GOP sweep Tuesday night, crushed state Sen. Wendy Davis in the Texas governor’s race and helped usher in a whole new crop of Republican leaders up and down the statewide ballot.
In this first open race for governor in a quarter century, Abbott was leading Davis by a double-digit margin in unofficial returns. While it is too soon to know the exact margin of victory, and numbers can shift depending on where remaining votes are, with about 85 percent of the precincts counted ...

Republicans won due to low Democrat voter turnout and voter suppression due to voter ID. Change any of these and the Republican Party falls in future elections. The fight for a blue Texas has just begun.

Democrats have got to step it up at the polls if you want this state to go blue! That means lots of hours beating the pavement and helped by the constant abuse of women in this state. Not that I condone how we are abused by our Texas government, but something is going to have to slap everyone in the face before we wake up and grab the reins!

Also keep this in mind, the only reason he won was because of two things: 1. Voter apathy and 2. The Supreme Court not blocking the enforcement of voter Id laws for this election.
Greg Henry via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Hahaha, reading these comments from you pathetic liberals is hilarious! You clowns have no clue
Brent Peters via Texas Tribune on Facebook
democrats are complaining the voter ID law made it to where most of their voters couldn't vote. Voting is a right and having an ID takes away that right is their argument. However, why don't yall bitch about having to register to vote. If it is a right why do we have to register. If someone doesn't register by a certain date their right is taken away. I would understand voter registration hurting voters more than I do an ID. You can get a free ID so it is not considered a poll tax. In order to not take away anyones rights why don't we just let everyone vote. We can cut their foreheads to make sure people don't vote twice. Voter ID only stops illegals to vote....however, most illegals have somebodies id because they are getting someone's checks cashed.

Texas wins all state wide seats by a large margin and Republicans win 12 more seats in the house more then before war war 2 in the house 8 new senate seats and maybe more gain control of the senate. 7 new governors won. What this says a serious ass whooping and Liberalism is dead and done in America. Thank God.

As a person who disagrees with the voter ID law, I still realize that wasn't the reason democrats lost these races. With that said, it frustrates me to only see comments about liberals and conservatives. No one has said a single thing about the platforms any candidate ran on. Until we can put aside partisan bs and deal with issues, no one wins.

He's in a wheelchair? Amazing, certainly nice he didn't exploit that in his campaign. Let's see pictures of the tens of thousands injured Texans who didn't get their day in court due to his participation in "lawsuit reform". By the time his corruption and incompetence are exposed he'll be referred to as "meal on wheels".

I knew Davis would lose by the time I got my yard sign. It's way to crappy and barely features her name. That was after I tried to volunteer for her campaign only to discover a very young, clueless, and inexperienced hipster in charge of the local effort, and that was in Austin where Davis should have had excellent support. Good candidate, terrible campaign. Hire me next time if you want to win.

For all you republicans posting your fox induced spiels, I challenge you to turn off your television and pick up a history book. It's time for you to learn where your party started. I suggest books on the Great Depression, FDR and the new deal. If it wasn't for many of the social programs and regulations in place, there would be no United States at all. Many of you wouldn't have born because your families would have fallen apart or starved to death. Those programs later carried over as people left the Republican Party in droves and became Dems. So keep crowing, because this state is projected to start leaning left over the course of the next few elections. Oh and stop replying directly to posters. You have something to say, post it so we can all read it.
