PCI Drilling Deeper report covered at Shale Energy Insider

shale-energy-insider-logoPost Carbon Institute’s new report Drilling Deeper: A Reality Check on US Government Forecasts For a Lasting Tight Oil and Shale Gas Boom was picked up by Shale Energy Insider.

Mr Hughes analysed the production statistics for seven tight oil basins and seven gas basins, which account for 88-percent and 89-percent of current shale production respectively and concluded that the assumed longevity of shale extraction could be in doubt.

The report suggests that by 2040, production rates from the lucrative Bakken and Eagle Ford reserves will be less than a tenth of that projected by the Energy Department. In addition, the top three shale gas fields will have production levels three times smaller than the EIA’s current predictions.
