Seattle Mariners Payroll: 2015

The Seattle Mariners spent more than $106 million in 2014 after all was said and done — incentives, bonuses, et al — including the July acquisitions of Kendrys Morales, Chris Denorfia and Austin Jackson. There are indications the club has planned for a similar, and likely higher, total payroll in 2015. What the limit is, only the organization knows, but it seems fairly clear they are willing to extend themselves in the right situation and/or for the right player. They proved so last winter when they committed $240 million to Robinson Cano, handed $14 million more to Fernando Rodney and still added payroll mid-season.

Below is a rundown of the club’s 2015 payroll commitments. Arbitration numbers will be added as the data is made available. Club-controlled players were assigned above-minimum salaries based on experience and in part were presumed on the slightly-high side to assure the overall totals were not under the actual totals. The below salary information is courtesy of Cot’s Baseball Contracts and various published reports.

Some liberties were taken in which club-controlled salaries were included, such as the majority of the relief corps, based on likelihood those players are on the Opening Day 25-man roster. Any players not listed but were part of the club in 2014 and not MilB or MLB Free Agents are due minimum salaries and can be renewed at the club’s discretion.
