Ain’t them Texas fracking earthquakes just a ton of fun?

in earthquakes

Never mind all the scientists including U.S. government scientists who have confirmed that fracking and particularly disposal of fracking wastewater causes earthquakes. In Texas we won’t be having none of that nonsense.

From Shaken and Stirred:

The Texas Railroad Commission also denies any links between disposal wells and earthquakes in Johnson County. “Commission staff have no science or data at this time linking these minor seismic events to oilfield activities. With more than 30,000 injection and disposal wells, Texas has a long history of safe injection, and Railroad Commission staff has not identified a significant correlation between seismic activity and injection practices,” Railroad Commission spokeswoman Ramona Nye wrote in an e-mail.

And the senior scientists investigating the increase in Texas earthquakes, Cliff Frohlich, director of the Institute of Geophysics at the University of Texas at Austin, while he agrees that disposal wells are linked to the quakes, he thinks they’re down right fun.

“My sense is, little earthquakes are not a bad thing. From my point of view, they’re kind of fun,” he said.

I’m guessing the people like, Keary and Kristina Rosalez, with damage from these quakes are not entertained.

Please excuse ignorant grammar usage but I had the ideal that it was fittin’.  =)  God bless Texas! Let’s all get a six pack, sit on the porch and pray for a little fun in the gas patch.

A couple of days ago I met a mother of a scout of Troop 68 who said she is with the Randal Mill neighborhood association and had reports of booms and shakes in Arlington last week or so.

I heard a community leader in southeast Arlington speak to the City Council during the June 5th meeting about the tremors she’s been experiencing lately. She has concerns that the drilling and fracking could be the cause of the shaking. Not one council member replied to her concern.

Gee, if earthquakes are so much fun, then perhaps I should add marshmallows to my shopping list to have on hand just in case we experience a gas well fire. That should be a real blast!!
