Watch Universe Today’s Fraser Cain School the Cast of ‘Interstellar’ on Black Holes

Space fans have been waiting for the movie “Interstellar” which opens in theaters this Friday, November 7. Today, the cast and crew of Interstellar did a special Google+ Hangout on Air at the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum. Host Kevin Frazier and the cast had their chance to throw a few space-related questions to the astronauts and scientists assembled for the Hangout. Our own publisher, +Fraser Cain was the unfortunate target for the question, “can you explain what a black hole is?” You can watch the entire Hangout above; Fraser schools them at about 35:33.

Brian Cox Visits NASA's Huge Vacuum Chamber - World's Biggest - to Prove Laws of Gravity: Feathers vs. Bowling Ball Drop Test | BBC
TV Host Brian Cox visits NASA’s Space Power Facility in Ohio to see what happens when a bowling ball and a feather are dropped together under the conditions of outer space.

NASA Glenn's Space Power Facility in Sandusky, Ohio, contains the world's largest space simulation chamber. Measuring 100' in diameter and 122' high, it is ideal for testing Mars lander systems and International Space Station hardware.

NASA’s HD Tour of the International Space Station
Nov. 3, 2014: During Expedition 31 in 2012, NASA astronaut Don Pettit used a 3D camera to take viewers on a "floating" tour of the International Space Station. He pointed the camera outside the station portals as well to provide incredible images of the Russian Soyuz capsule docked to the station, the many trusses and solar panels extending from the various nodes, and of his home planet below. Note: You will need red-blue stereoscopic 3D vision glasses to view the video.

This link will take you to a 3D version of the video:

NASA Apollo 8 Reentry
This Apollo 8 reentry photograph was taken by a U.S. Air Force ALOTS (Airborne Lightweight Optical Tracking System) camera mounted on a KC-135A aircraft flown at 40,000 ft altitude. Apollo 8 splashed down at 10:15 a.m., December 27, 1968, in the central Pacific approximately 1,000 miles South-Southwest of Hawaii.

Apollo 8, the second human spaceflight mission in the United States Apollo space program, was launched on December 21, 1968, and became the first manned spacecraft to leave Earth orbit, reach the Earth's Moon, orbit it and return safely to Earth. The three-astronaut crew — Commander Frank Borman, Command Module Pilot James Lovell, and Lunar Module Pilot William Anders — became the first humans to travel beyond low Earth orbit, the first to see Earth as a whole planet, the first to directly see the far side of the Moon, and then the first to witness Earthrise.

The 1968 mission, the third flight of the Saturn V rocket and that rocket's first manned launch, was also the first human spaceflight launch from the Kennedy Space Center, Florida, located adjacent to Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. (Source: Wikipedia)

NASA's Project Gemini: 1962-1966
Project Gemini was NASA's second human spaceflight program, with ten manned flights occurring between 1965 and 1966 (pre-Apollo).

Similar in design to the Mercury capsule, but much larger, the Gemini spacecraft was designed to carry two astronauts into Earth orbit to test long-duration flight, rendezvous and docking and other technologies needed for journeys to the moon.
