Police investigating suspicious death in Port Orchard-area apartment

SOUTH KITSAP — The Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a woman found Tuesday afternoon in her Port Orchard-area apartment.

“It’s a suspicious death and appears to be a homicide,” sheriff’s office spokesman Scott Wilson said.

“This is not a random target of opportunity where somebody decided to kick in a door and kill somebody,” Wilson said.

Authorities would not say how she was killed.

The woman was found in her home at the South Park Greens apartment complex on the 4000 block of Madrona Drive just before 3:30 p.m. Her body was found by a family member.

The woman is believed to be in her early 30s.

The sheriff’s office was searching Tuesday night for her car, a gold 2001 Ford Focus with the Washington license plate 495-YLY.

Wilson said the car has two smaller, temporary spare tires on rear known as donuts. “It would kind of stand out if moving down the roadway, or even if parked,” he said.

A focus of the investigation is graphic photos purported to be of the body taken shortly after the woman’s death. The photos were posted anonymously on an image-sharing Internet site. Wilson said the photos appeared to have been posted just before 3 p.m. — about a half-hour before the body was reported to authorities. The photos included text indicating law enforcement and the media would know about the woman’s death once one of her family members found her body.

Wilson said though no suspect has been identified, detectives have “several people” with whom they wish to speak.

Sheriff’s detectives Tuesday night were in the process of obtaining a search warrant to enter the apartment to gather evidence.

The Kitsap County coroner will conduct a parallel investigation. The coroner’s office is responsible for identifying the woman and determining the manner and cause of her death.

Sheriff’s investigators are asking that anyone who sees the car or has knowledge of its location contact the sheriff’s office by calling 911 or 360-308-5400.
