OCTOBER PERMITS TO DRILL
The Commission issued a total of 1,515 original drilling permits in October 2010 compared to 1,003 in October 2009. The October total included 1,302 permits to drill new oil and gas wells, 39 to re-enter existing well bores, and 174 for re-completions. Permits issued in October 2010 included 398 oil, 196 gas, 887 oil and gas, 22 injection, one service and 11 other permits.
SEPTEMBER CRUDE OIL PRODUCTION
Texas preliminary September 2010 crude oil production averaged 938,457 barrels daily, up from the 897,156 barrels daily average of September 2009.
The preliminary Texas crude oil production figure for September 2010 is 28,153,714 barrels, up from 26,914,676 barrels reported during September 2009.
OCTOBER OIL AND GAS COMPLETIONS
In October 2010, operators reported 451 oil, 259 gas, 38 injection and one other completion compared to 477 oil, 575 gas, 63 injection and four other completions during October 2009.
Total well completions for 2010 year to date are 8,723 down from 13,575 recorded during the same period in 2009.
Operators reported 740 holes plugged and one dry hole in October 2010 compared to 469 holes plugged and four dry holes in October 2009.
SEPTEMBER NATURAL GAS PRODUCTION
Texas oil and gas wells produced 553,183,240 Mcf (thousand cubic feet) of gas based upon preliminary production figures for September 2010 up from the September preliminary gas production total of 533,618,142.
Texas production in September 2010 came from 140,331 oil wells and 91,160 gas wells.
