Friends Bring Halloween To Boy Who Needs Transplant

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Cline McMurry runs around his front yard laughing and happy. He’s your typical rambunctious 5-year-old. This Halloween he gets to act like a kid for a few minutes.

But Cline couldn’t go trick-or-treating so his friends brought Halloween and candy to him.

“He is the most outgoing – loving – gregarious child,” says mom Elena McMurry “…and to see him not be able to socialize and trick or treat and do the things we all want for our children it crushes me.”

Cline looks healthy, but his immune system is weak. His parents say just an ear infection can land him in the hospital.

“I know I have a rare blood disorder,” says Cline McMurry “… and we need to find a match for me.”

Cline needs a bone marrow transplant. Out of 11 million registered donors there’s no match. This Halloween he needs a few heroes to save him so he can be a kid and have a chance at a normal life.

“A transplant is the only answer,” says Elena McMurry “He’s just never known what it’s like to feel well, to run without getting tired – to have a normal life.” It just takes a cheek swab to register.

You can register as a bone marrow donor Saturday, November 1st from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Tanglewood Elementary School.
It will be at 3060 Overton Park Drive in Fort Worth in the Cafeteria and Gym.
