Ray Rice's hearing continues Thursday

Ray Rice's appeal hearing is underway. Rice contends the NFL subjected him to double jeopardy and violated his due process rights under the collective bargaining agreement when NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell extended his two-game suspension to an indefinite ban, hours after video surfaced of him punching out his then-fiancée in February in an Atlantic City casino elevator. Rice and his wife, Janay, were likely to testify separately. Goodell was the first witness called in the hearing and testified under oath for more than two hours Wednesday, a person with knowledge of the testimony told USA TODAY Sports.

Surrounded by media, Ray Rice arrived for the first day of his appeal hearing in New York. Rice was suspended indefinitely in September for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy after a video emerged of him hitting his then-fiancee. (Nov. 5) AP
