HOUSTON – Houston's H-E-B Thanksgiving Day Parade will celebrate its 65TH anniversary this year and organizers promise it will be bigger and better than ever.

The parade was nearly canceled last year, but city leaders and sponsors rushed in to save it.

"I grew up watching the Thanksgiving Day Parade, as a lot of Houstonians did as well," said Mayor Annise Parker said Wednesday. "When it looked like we were going to lose it, it was a really sad day."

The 2014 parade will celebrate Houston families and the grand marshals are the stars from the TLC reality series "The Little Couple." Dr. Jennifer Arnold, Bill Klein and their children Will and Zoey will share the spotlight.

Organizers also promise more high-flying balloons, new floats and plenty of live performances.

The annual event will be broadcast live on KHOU 11 and beamed to TV stations around the state.

"We have had this parade on our air for two decades. We were so excited to work with the city when they hit the re-start button on it," said KHOU 11 President & General Manager Susan McEldoon. "It is one of the most important and significant community events that we do at the station all year."

Great Day Houston's Deborah Duncan will serenade Santa when he makes his appearance signifying the beginning of the Christmas season in Houston.
