‘Path Of Destruction’ As 7 Cars Smashed By Truck In Lynn
LYNN (CBS) – A drunk truck driver left a “path of destruction” across a street in Lynn overnight, police said, and then allegedly sealed it with a kiss.
Stephen Gaudet, 37, of Lynn, was arrested after officers say he drove a box truck down Childs Street around 1:45 a.m. and slammed into seven parked cars.
One car was hit so hard it ended up underneath another vehicle.
Some fences and trees were also damaged.
“It sounded like he revved on the engine a little bit and just by the way he was driving I could kind of tell he was under the influence,” a woman who witnessed the incident told WBZ-TV.
Gaudet stopped at the end of the street and, according to court documents, police found him slumped behind the steering wheel of the truck.
When they tried to wake him up, they say he blew a kiss at them. Then, there was a brief struggle before they arrested him.
Gaudet is charged with operating under the influence of liquor, OUI drugs, and resisting arrest.
No one was hurt, but all seven cars had to be towed away for repairs.
“Three of my cars were all in a row and the new one did a number on the fence over there,” one resident told WBZ.
Gaudet was arraigned Thursday in Lynn District Court.
He pleaded not guilty and was released on the condition that he not drive and undergo a substance abuse evaluation.
