House Fire on The Hill Claims Life of Man
News
ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – A sad scene on The Hill this morning, as a fire claimed the life of a 35-to-40-year-old man in his home on Shaw at Edwards.
St. Louis Fire Chief Dennis Jenkerson says its another case where smoke detectors may have saved a life.
There were no smoke detectors in the building.
He says firefighters got there in a hurry and knocked the flames down in a hurry, but it was too late to save the man who was found dead in his second floor bedroom.
“From the amount of burn or char in the room, this fire had been going awhile because it actually burnt through the floor,” Jenkerson says. “This was a fairly well-established fire when we showed up on the scene.”
The victim’s name is not being released yet. Jenkerson says the man suffered smoke inhalation and burns.
The fire’s cause is under investigation.
