OAKLAND (KPIX 5) — Shoppers at a store on the border of Oakland and Berkeley has missed a new tax on sugary beverages by inches.

True Value Hardware employee Tom Ton says half the store is in Berkeley, but the half where sodas are sold is in Oakland.

The location of the register means syrup-sweetened coffee drinks and sodas sold there won’t face the added one cent per ounce tax.
