In my post “The fracking of Denton,” I explained that for nearly five years we have been giving presentations and comments and sending emails to the Denton City Council.
That’s why it was a bitter pill several weeks ago when the mayor told residents that the drilling and fracking would only last about 10 days and then it would all be over. Has he been sleeping through the past 5 years of council meetings? Did he forget that stuff like this happens all the time? It was another bitter pill last night when the mayor and council tried to rewrite history and dodge responsibility for decisions they made.
Even operators like Range Resources threaten people in the gas patch by using the slogan, “Drilling is just the beginning.” They admit it!
Let’s help make sure the Mayor understand this so that as he proceeds on his climb up the political ladder he won’t be confused again.

Is anyone videotaping the town and county meetings? keep a record and ask your questions of concern and make pertinent comments and have it in a video and post on youtube or vimeo and have this record of the dangerous decisions by elected officials who support the gas and oil industry…they won’t be able to deny saying what they said !
Several years ago, we all met at Harpool Middle School which is in Denton ISD, but is located close to Argyle/Lantana. The topic was the health impacts of drilling and fracking. There was a cancer cluster in Flower Mound at an elementary school, Liberty Elementary, on Quail Run. Several mothers had breast cancer, and the children had leukemia. The parents demanded that the state perform a cancer study. They did, but they cut the timing off so as to not include anyone in Flower Mound. Gil Bujano, from the Texas Railroad Commission was there, as well as all the other elected officials you could possibly want. I believe it was in 2007. They know about the health impacts. There is precedent. Everyone, please write, call, Tweet, e-mail, whatever you must do. Please do not let one more person suffer if you can help it. Thank you.

Ten days to drill a well; that’s a little on the short side but fairly close.
That’s what the drillers were saying in NY a couple of years ago – implying that is all that goes on.
And that’s what a Ph.D. engineer from Drexel U. said in Truthland. Ten days and then they hydroseed the site and it all disappears. Shame on him.
It takes several months to build a drilling pad – heavy construction.
Then 10-15 days to drill the first well. Then another 10-15 days to drill the second well.
Then 3-10 days to frack both wells.
Then at least several days of very noisy flaring to “blow the nose” of the new well and check for flow volume/pressure.
And then, since the state-of-the-art shale wells are typically engineered for 10+ wells on each drilling pad, they will be back when the economics of gathering and selling the gas dictate.
So the site will remain active and unremediated for years, not days.
Ten days the mayor said! That is straight out of the “they-will-believe-anything” playbook promulgated by the drillers on unsuspecting dupes.
Even up here in NY we know better and boo them folks out of the room.
