AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) is the top-ranked Dallas-Fort Worth-based company in Forbes' listing of the World's Most Valuable Brands.

It's a list laden with companies that either operate from DFW or have major regional or national headquarters, facilities or campuses in North Texas.

AT&T is ranked 16th on the list that is led by Apple Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL) at No. 1 and Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) at No. 2. Microsoft employs roughly 1,200 people at its offices in Irving.

Apple's brand is worth $124.2 billion, according to Forbes. Only companies that operate in the United States were considered for the list, which eliminated such giant companies as Vodafone or China Mobile, Forbes said.

New North Texas resident Toyota came in at No. 9, just behind Samsung at No. 8. Toyota announced earlier this year that is relocating its U.S. headquarters to Plano. Samsung already operates it U.S. unit, Samsung Telecommunications America, from a headquarters in Richardson.
