    October 29, 2014 | Online Voting to Develop 2015 IgCC Closes Friday. Eligible voting Members may vote on submitted code changes to the 2015 International Green Construction Code until midnight Pacific time on Friday. Results are expected to be available about two weeks after voting ends.     October 23, 2014 | Ebola Fact Sheet for ICC Members. To prepare ICC Members—especially first responders—to potential on-the-job exposure to Ebola, ICC has developed a fact sheet based on current knowledge from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Click to read more.

    October 16, 2014 | ICC and ASABE Announce New Landscape Irrigation Sprinkler Standard. The International Code Council and the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers announce the release of a new ANSI consensus standard to classify sprinkler and drip irrigation systems, set uniform testing procedures, and establish minimum design and performance requirements for commercial and residential landscape irrigation components.     October 6, 2014 | ICC and SRCC Unite to Assure Safety, Effectiveness and Fast Access to Markets for Solar Industry. The International Code Council and the Solar Rating & Certification Corporation have agreed in principle to join forces and combine resources to support the solar industry and communities, and meet growing market demands. The agreement was announced during ICC’s 2014 Annual Conference, Group C Public Comment Hearings and Expo in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Read more.

    September 18, 2014 | White House Issues Actions to Advance Solar Deployment and Energy Efficiency. The actions call for strengthening commercial and residential buildings codes, and references the International Energy Conservation Code. ICC and the Solar Rating and Certification Corporation are working to update solar standards that would support the President’s initiative. Continue reading.

    September 18, 2014 | HUD Launches $1 Billion National Disaster Resilience Competition; ICC Plans to Support Applicants. The competition will help communities that have been devastated by natural disasters build back stronger and be better prepared for the future. ICC plans to support communities who apply with information on best practices for adoption of state of the art building codes and standards. Continue reading.

    September 11, 2014 | ICC Answers the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge from NFPA. Six ICC Executive Team members took the challenge at the associations new Western Regional Office to help raise funds and awareness for the ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) Association and challenged others.     September 11, 2014 | Professional Development Council Named. The new Professional Development Council (PDC) was recently established to better coordinate career path resources for ICC Members and other stakeholders by utilizing shared knowledge between ICC Education and Certification programs. The ICC Board of Directors approved the new Council Policy #45 in April 2014 to create the PDC and by which it will be governed. This critical new Council, chaired by Cindy Davis, CBO, replaces both BIPS and the Education Committee. A major purpose of the PDC is to align the ICC Education and Certification Programs to ensure quality training is available to meet the needs of ICC Members, all ICC educational customers and ICC Certification holders while maintaining the credibility and validity of the ICC Certification Program.

    September 10, 2014 | Exclusive Free Benefit for ICC Governmental Members. Through a special agreement with the Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA), ICC Governmental Members may qualify for free access to ACCA's online membership benefits. As a contractor-focused organization, ACCA provides technical and business management products and services to help contractors meet or exceed business requirements. Now, ICC Members can have access to the same information contractors have.

    September 9, 2014 | Benefits of Special Inspection are the Focus of New ICC Manual. The most common contributing factor to significant structural damage and building failure after extreme natural events such as earthquakes and hurricanes is construction that fails to comply with codes, standards and design documents. A new Code Council publication, Special Inspection Manual: 2012 Edition, discusses mitigating these issues. Click to read.

    September 8, 2014 | ICC’s Relocation of West Coast Operations to a New, State-of-the-Art Facility is Complete. ICC has relocated its Western Regional Office into a new, state-of-the-art facility in Brea, Calif. The new location continues to provide a global gateway for accreditation and product certification for its subsidiaries ICC Evaluation Service, LLC (ICC-ES) and the International Accreditation Service (IAS).     September 5, 2014 | 2015 Editions of the International Codes Now Available. The 2015 I-Codes help achieve resiliency, safety, innovation and affordability in the built environment. Code users can begin today to prepare for adoption and use of the newest codes. Code purchases include a free subscription to ICC’s new Code Alert service that provides critical code updates and free access to videos, excerpts from support documents and training resources.

    September 3, 2014 | NFPA Challenges ICC and Other Organizations to Take the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. NFPA's senior staff took part in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, a fundraising effort to treat and cure ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. Before the icy water was dumped over their heads, the senior staff threw down the gauntlet to 10 other organizations to participate in the fundraiser.

    August 28, 2014 | Survey of Code Professionals Predicts Substantial Retirement Exodus. Over 80 percent of respondents expect to retire within the next 15 years, and more than 30 percent plan to do so within five years. Click to read more.

    August 28, 2014 | FEMA Invites You to Share Your Knowledge of Disaster Resilience. FEMA’s 2014-2018 Strategic Plan calls to draw from and work with the whole community to identify leading, community-level resilience indicators that can provide a recurring, overall picture of the resilience of the nation in preparing for, responding to and mitigating against disasters.     Participants Wanted to Develop Better Buildings Workforce Guidelines Job Task Analyses. The National Institute of Building Sciences Commercial Workforce Credentialing Council (CWCC) is seeking qualified practitioners to assist in the development of job task analyses for the Better Buildings Workforce Guidelines, a set of voluntary national guidelines to improve the quality and consistency of commercial building workforce training and certification programs.

    Code Council Teams Up with NAHB and NKBA for "Design and Construction Week." The International Code Council is a supporting organization of the first ever “Design and Construction Week,” Feb. 4-6, 2014, in Las Vegas. Created by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA) to improve industry professionalism through education, networking and product knowledge, the event promises to be the largest-ever residential construction expo in the nation in 2014.

    ICC, NCSEA Guide Details Design for Serviceability Required by Code. Guide to the Design of Building Systems for Serviceability: In Accordance with the 2012 IBC® and ASCE/SEI 7-10 provides valuable guidance on areas of serviceability required by the code but not always specified. Co-published by the International Code Council and National Council of Structural Engineers Associations (NCSEA), this comprehensive guide includes a wide range of resources in a single document.

    ICC Illustrated IBC Handbook Helps Professionals Better Understand Code Application, Compliance. The 2012 International Building Code (IBC) Handbook, a new publication from the International Code Council (ICC) and McGraw-Hill Professional, combines detailed discussion with more than 600 color illustrations to support the application of IBC provisions.

    The 2015 International Codes have arrived! Jurisdictions and other code users can begin today to prepare for adoption and use of the newest building safety codes. The I-Codes developed by International Code Council Members and other safety advocates at public hearings using the governmental consensus process help achieve resiliency, safety, innovation and affordability in the built environment.

    The popular series Significant Changes to the I-Codes has been updated for the 2015 IBC, IRC, IFC, and IPC/IMC/IFGC. These full-color guides walk you through the most important changes from the 2012 editions using color illustrations and in-depth discussion of how the change affects real-world application.

    Building Code Basics: Fire will help you focus on important fundamentals of the 2012 International Fire Code. This step-by-step guide uses real-world scenarios, non-code language and color illustrations to help you better understand code requirements.

    Special Inspection Manual, 2012 Edition details how specialized oversight and increased inspection during construction can help to prevent significant structural damage. The manual contains detailed information about the IBC requirements for special inspection and supports preparation for special inspection certification exams.

    The new edition of A Budgeting Guide for Local Government explores the constantly changing world of budgeting in local government.

    Disaster Network

    ICC Disaster Response Network. As you know, in the wake of a natural disaster the definition of normal goes out the window. Once a disaster hits, there are many emergency procedures that must be put in place. It's only after these immediate needs have been taken care of that the focus on recovery and rebuilding can really begin. You can request a list of volunteers who can help you with your post-disaster inspection efforts.

    Task Force Promotes Preparedness, Provides Guidance, Coordinates Housing Resources for Communities. The National Disaster Housing Task Force, composed of Federal agency partners, provides interagency coordination to develop plans, procedures and guidelines for state and local authorities use to enhance preparedness and program knowledge and provides other tools for communities. 

    Test Your Disaster Knowledge. Depending on where you live, some sort of severe weather likely has affected your life this year and cost you money.

    The Architect's Role in Disaster. Natural disasters are unpreventable, not unpredictable: The U.S. sustains about 10 a year.

    Disaster Support Hotline. ICC Member Jurisdictions in need of assistance during their rebuilding efforts can call the Code Council's DISASTER SUPPORT HOTLINE at 888-422-7233 (ext. 5238).

    ICC Partners with MBI on Disaster Relief. ICC and the Modular Building Institute have teamed up to assist Building and Fire Officials in tornado-stricken states that need temporary office space.

    ATC-45 Webinar. ICC and Applied Technology Council are offering a recorded webinar on the ATC-45 Field Manual: Safety Evaluation of Buildings after Wind Storms and Floods to assist in jurisdictions' recovery efforts.

    Reduce Your Hurricane Risk This Season. June marks the start of hurricane season and extra concerns this year based on an above-average activity prediction from experts display the importance of hurricane-related codes, hurricane-safety information and hurricane preparedness.

    FEMA Identifies Code Council as Earthquake Partner. The 2011 Directory of FEMA Earthquake Partners provides contact information for more than 300 organizations, including the Code Council, and individuals involved in earthquake mitigation at the state and federal levels as well as the non-governmental sector. The document is a free download.
