Walk, skip, run to benefit AIDS Arms this Sunday

LifeWalk organizers, consider this fair warning. I’m going to petition you to make a major change to the 5K run/walk next year.

Because quite frankly, this whole “run” or “walk” restriction isn’t very inclusive of flamboyantly nellie homosexuals like me.

Isn’t it time we include a 5K sashay category?

Participants could choose between subgroups of complex maneuvers like the hands-on-hips-oh no you din’t-head-Bob sashay. (Try that for 5 kilometers if you want a real cardio session.)

Or perhaps the Project Runway Catwalk sashay, which requires concentration and superior balance.

Or even the Miss America Swimsuit Competition sashay, which delivers an intense upper-body workout thanks to alternating princess waves to the cheering crowd.

But I realize changes this monumental take time. So until my pleas are heard, I simply hope to be joined by many this Sunday because it’s not too late to register. Have less active plans? Simply make a donation.

A $25 donation pays for one HIV test, $50 covers a patient’s prescription co-pay, and $250 provides a week of safe housing for HIV-positive homeless individuals.

Just imagine the good LifeWalk does from the combined proceeds from the thousands of people who attend.

It’s one of the most fun events of the year and even though my body is screaming to do something else, I’ll lace up my pink Wendy Davis sneakers and walk like a man.

A man in a pink tutu, but still.
