Born and raised in Dallas, I have attended Brookhaven College, a Dallas County Community College district school, since fall 2011. I am en route to finish with an Associate in Arts degree with a field of study in Mass Communications-Journalism this fall. My interest in Journalism began when I was the arts and entertainment director for the award-winning bi-weekly college publication, the Brookhaven Courier. After my first year, I became the editor-in-chief and have held this role for the past two years, as well as for the campus literary magazine, the Windmill.

I have received multiple awards from the Texas Community College Journalism Association for news reporting, editorial, critical review, photojournalism and page design. I am also an award-winning published poet.

I interned for the LGBT publication Dallas Voice in 2012 and continue to freelance. I also ran a weekly blog, The Ink Spot, for the Dallas Observer in 2012.

I came out as genderqueer/transgender (female-to-male) in a personal essay on the cover of the Dallas Voice, August 2013. After Brookhaven, I plan on transferring to Southern Methodist University for a Bachelor’s in Journalism with a minor in Gender Studies.

I was brought up in a highly political environment, which fueled my fire to endorse change in a positive direction. Bringing knowledge to the table is my passion and documenting the innumerable stories in our community is an art I take pride in.
