Blinded with Science!

Blinded with Science!

Abel Folgar

Surely the best part of Halloween is the socially acceptable sanctioning of defrauding your neighbors of candies and other treats with the gravitas of, again, a socially acceptable sanction of revenge (i.e., trick[s]). This is already good stuff on its own, and it only gets better when large institutions open themselves up to the public for such proceedings. While the retaliatory nature of tricking might not fly with the Museum of Discovery and Science's (MODS) board, it certainly has nothing to fear, for the large bag (no pun intended) of treats it is offering this Halloween is impressive enough to satisfy all goers. With paid admission, the whole family is welcome to trick-or-treat while enjoying a costume contest, pumpkin bowling, a pirate party, the Mad Scientist's Electricity Show, and the antics of Joey the Otter. And that's on top of the running exhibits the museum is offering this fall and a petting zoo filled with charming critters like snakes, gators, and bugs. However, free candy is still the reigning king of Halloween, and MODS will not disappoint with a jelly-bean tasting and its pièce de résistance -- an edible-bug tasting. Let's see if your neighbors can beat that! The fun runs from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Museum of Discovery and Science, 401 SW Second St., Fort Lauderdale. Nonmember tickets cost $12 for children 2 to 12, $13 for seniors, and $14 for adults. Call 954-467-6637, or visit mods.org.
