Did you know that Fort Lauderdale is widely considered the "Yachting Capital of the World"? If you are not a yachtie or yacht owner, you might not realize it, but you probably do know that every year there's a nautical gathering where you can walk around and ogle boats and dream of life as a 1-percenter. This weekend is your chance as the 55th-annual Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show kicks off Thursday and runs through Monday. Hey, maybe you can go as a yachtie for Halloween? See the cutting edge in yacht design as well as runabouts, sportfishers, high-performance boats, center consoles, cabin cruisers, flatboats, skiffs, express cruisers, sailing yachts, motor yachts, bowriders, catamarans, ski boats, jet boats, trawlers, inflatables, canoes, extraordinary superyachts, and more. This year, there will be plenty of dining options, including a full-service pop-up restaurant, Hugh's Café, at the Hall of Fame Marina (1 Hall of Fame Drive, Fort Lauderdale; 954-764-3975). Other event locations include Bahia Mar Yachting Center (801 Seabreeze Blvd.), the Las Olas Marina (240 E. Las Olas Circle), and the Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center (1950 Eisenhower Blvd.) Show hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday through Sunday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday. Admission is $22 online and $24 at the gate. Visit showmanagement.com.
