#AsCanadianAs: 'Our Proud Flag and All it Stands For'

Categories: Canada, Community

Frankly, I'm stunned.

The CBC Community blog introduced the idea of reviving Peter Gzowski's "As Canadian as..." challenge on Friday. We asked people to tweet and post photos to Instagram on that theme using the hashtag #AsCanadianAs.

You responded with several dozen tweets and a dozen or so pictures on Instagram

But the real surprise was the response we got where we weren't expecting it.

"As Canadian as..." was our most viewed blog post over the weekend by a mile (kilometre?) and the CBC Community has written over 600 comments there. Our Facebook post has close to 1,000 comments and replies.

Even our Google+ post has over 100 comments. That never happens.

I even got an email, which couldn't have surprised me more if it had come by Canada Post. Here is our email entry to "As Canadian as..." just as we received it.

I replied and Cindy wrote back:

Thanks for writing, Grandma Cindy. My cousins grew up in Watertown. Lovely to hear from you.

I appreciate that you want to participate and I will be proud to post your suggestion in your name come Monday morning. I'll even find a lovely picture of the Maple Leaf to go with it.

All the best. J>

So, for Cindy, we give you the photo gallery above, from Canada Day last year, and this frozen flag on the Wolfe Island Ferry, sent to us in April by Jessica Luedi of Kingston, Ont. "Only in Canada would it freeze upright!" she wrote.

And now, in addition to Twitter and Instagram, you can upload your photos using the form below. And if you have an idea for completing the saying "As Canadian as...," you can email us, too, like Cindy did. Our address is community@cbc.ca
