Year after year, millions of wild salmon return to Bristol Bay like no other place on earth. It provides 14,000 jobs for hard-working fishermen, sustains the Alaska Native people, and provides food for Alaska’s bears, beluga whales, and other wildlife.
The proposed Pebble Mine
In the heart of Alaska Bristol Bay, a Canadian company, Northern Dynasty, wants to build the Pebble gold and copper mine, which would be the largest open pit mine in North America - generating up to 10 billion tons of toxic mine waste and destroying up to 94 miles of salmon streams.
Speak for the salmon, call on the EPA to stop the Pebble Mine!
The science is clear
A peer-reviewed scientific study by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) demonstrates that mining the Pebble deposit would do severe and lasting damage to Bristol Bay salmon.
The EPA can stop the Pebble Mine!
The EPA has the authority under 404c of the Clean Water Act to prohibit the disposal of mine waste in the pristine waters of the Bristol Bay watershed to protect the fishery. The EPA initiated the process in March 2014, but the mining corporation will be fighting it tooth and nail.
The fight isn’t over
We can’t let up now. We need your help to urge the EPA and President Obama to complete the 404c process, and stop the Pebble Mine for good.
