Van de Putte's Bus Tour Hits Republican Stronghold
LUFKIN — When state Sen. Leticia Van de Putte’s campaign bus drove up to the Goodwill Baptist Church here on Wednesday, she was greeted by an unusual sight in this Republican region: a lively group of Democrats.
“As Democrats here, we just try to keep the lights on and the flag up and say ‘Yeah, we’re still here,’” said Glenn Donnahoe, a retired veteran active in Lufkin’s small Democratic community. But he added that the group gets energized when candidates like Van de Putte campaign here.

This election just proves how stupid texas voters are. You have an accomplished pharmacist running against a known nut case and the nut case is gonna win.

Yes that bilingual bus of hers I'm sure is going over REAL well in East Texas. The Bubbas I know over there probably called the Border Patrol when they saw her coming.

Going into this areas is good sense....There can actually be MORE VOTES for a Democratic candidate in some of these areas then there are in the traditional Demo strongholds. It is true that a Democratic candidate in Hispanic areas may get 70% of the votes cast....but only 40% in some of these areas...However, that overlooks the basic question of "Percent of what?"...70% sounds good but not it if is 70% of a 15% turnout of registered voters....Similarly, 40% sounds bad, but not when it is 40% of a 35% turnout rate.

Four years from now, after Patrick makes a mess of the congenial and traditionally bi-partisan Texas Senate and another GOP candidate under criminal investigation is forced to resign, Many Texas voters will have second thoughts about voting for only one party.
