San Antonio Considers Shale Drilling's Effect on Ozone
As the ozone rating in San Antonio continues its slow upward march, area officials are beginning to investigate whether oil and gas drilling in the Eagle Ford Shale has anything to do with it. But their efforts are fraught with complications. And they remain far from answers in what is sure to be a high-stakes debate over the environmental impact of one of the country’s newest and fastest-growing oil and gas development regions.
“If people are pointing fingers, you’re just not going to achieve your goals unless somebody steps in with a big stick,” said Peter Bella, director ...

Tell her to walk to work, turn off the power in her home and office, leave the computer turned off and write with quill and ink.

People in San Antonio have known about this for quite awhile. The haze in the air makes the city more like LA in the 1970s than ever.

If better and less costly methods of removing particulate matter from emissions can be developed, it could save many people from respiratory lung infections and disease. We have one atmosphere.

For some reason,,,I don't believe that the giant haze over San Antonio is coming from oil and gas drilling operations, nor even being contributed. It might have something to do with the 2 million vehicles there,,,,though.

Always pushing the agenda...let's overlook the substantial increase in population in San Antonio and the surround metro, though...not to mention the obscene number of vehicles that couldn't have possibly passed inspection there (but pour out more fumes than a refinery in Corpus Christi). Nope. It's g o t to be Eagle Ford. Not.

I'm going to type very slowly so you can understand me, we can live without plastic, cars, electricity, air conditioning, etc. We can not live without clean air and water. Luckily there are alternate fuels and energy sources and, as we develop these, they will get better and better.

The quality of life might diminish, but at least we would still have life.

No, Luisa, it would not. The "ancient Grid" you refer to is not so ancient. It is constantly being upgrades with new innovation.
If you put up solar panels on every house you would still need the generating capacity and line we have because solar is ot a reliable and consistent source of energy. Plus most solar panel systems are not efficient enough to supply the typical household .

Let me type even slower. The quality of life we enjoy now would greatly diminish without plastics and other synthetics. The alternatives you speak of do not and will not generate anywhere near the amount of power that this country needs.

Yes, my dear Matthew, that is exactly what I want, because there is nothing else we could possibly do, nothing else, just keep polluting the air and water, that is all we can possibly do.

Name calling. Keep it classy, Sam.

I've been voting straight blue since 1972. I just don't understand how anyone can vote for republicans, especially tea party republicans. These are the most ridiculous bunch of politicians I have ever seen.

My dear Matthew, no respect intended, you really do worry about that short bus, you do realize those are for special needs children.

An uptick in Prius use? Electric motors create ozone.
