The Argyle football team prays after defeating Celina 41-29 at Eagle Stadium Sept. 12.

The Argyle Eagles (8-0, 3-0) pulverized Carter, 56-14, last Friday at John Kincaide Stadium. Seven players scored for the team.

In the first quarter, Argyle scored two touchdowns. Gage McCook scored off an 11-yard run. J.C. Chalk scored from a 16-yard pass from Cooper Rodgers. The second quarter seemed to pose even less challenges for the Eagles.

Drew Estrada scored off a 36-yard pass from Cooper Rodgers. Argyle turned around and did it again as Nick Ralston scored off a 1-yard run. With just 40 seconds left on the click before half time, Erik Ramon of Argyle scored a touchdown off a 13-yard run.

By halftime five players had scored touchdowns, and Argyle had 235 yards of offense and a 35-0 cushion.

In the third quarter, Carter scored when Kenneth Spencer threw a 6-yard pass to Nieman Armstrong. Just two minutes later, Erik Ramon opened the gap with another Argyle touchdown off a 24-yard run. Caleb Holt got the extra point. With just 30 seconds left in the quarter, Argyle’s Casey Harper makes it into the end zone from a 19-yard pass from sophomore backup quarterback Dane Ledford.

In the fourth quarter, Pierce Davies scores another touchdown for Argyle off an 8-yard run. Carter sophomore Timothy Ferguson sprinted 66 yards on a quarterback draw for a touchdown for Carter just minutes before the end of the game.

Argyle is No. 1 in SportsDay's Class 4A-others rankings going into Week 9. This weekend, the Eagles hunt for another win on their path to the playoffs. Argyle plays a home conference game against Dallas Pinkston (2-6, 0-3) at Eagle Stadium in Argyle.

“Last time we played at John Kincaide Stadium was a playoff game, and I built it up as that,” Argyle coach Todd Rodgers said. “The kids responded very well.”

The Eagles played well offensively and defensively the first half of the game against Carter, Rodgers said. Because of that, he was able to switch players out to give valuable playing experience to younger players.

“We wanted to start getting into playoff mode and whipped into shape,” Rodgers said. “We see Friday as an opportunity to get after Pinkston and putt our team together for the playoffs.”

Argyle does not have any players injured at this time.

“Pinkston has several good athletes and a very aggressive defense,” Rodgers said. “We have to be prepared to keep their athletes in check.”

The Friday game is also senior night for Argyle. Coaches and staff will recognize senior band members, cheerleaders, football players, managers and trainers for their dedication to the program.

The Eagles will play Sanger for the district championship. The game will determine what bracket they are in for the playoffs. Pinkston recently turned the ball over five times in a 66-20 loss to Sanger.
