A Ryan High School student sustained minor injuries in an alleged hit-and-run accident Wednesday.

According to Denton police Officer Ryan Grelle, officers received a call about the accident at approximately 8:35 a.m. He said that an unknown person driving a gray or blueish pickup southbound on Mayhill Road attempted to make a right turn on McKinney Street and struck the 16-year-old girl who was walking eastbound on McKinney and attempting to cross Mayhill.

The girl was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries, Grelle said, adding that the driver did not stop to render aid and has not been found.

The Denton school district Wednesday afternoon identified the injured student as Tremaine Bell, a Ryan High School sophomore.

Mario Zavala, a Denton ISD spokesman, said Ryan High Principal Vernon Reeves spoke with a parent of Bell’s and visited her in the hospital where she is recovering. Zavala said Bell was speaking and seemed to be responsive.

No further information on the accident or the make and model of the pickup was available, according to Grelle.
