Plano Rotary Club hosts annual golf scramble

The Plano Rotary Club will host its annual Scramble for Scholarships golf tournament benefiting the Hendrick Scholarship Foundation on Oct. 30 at Stonebriar Country Club in Frisco.

Presented by Toyota of Plano, the event will kick off Oct. 29 with a live auction and dinner from Cajun Tailgaters, Urban Crust and Henry’s Ice Cream at the Haggard Party Barn, 5948 McKamy Trail in Plano.

Nancy Humphrey, Lori Roberts, Camille Ussery and Pam Little are organizing the pre-party. Jay Nelson and Ed Veale will join Humphrey in chairing the golf tournament and a helicopter ball drop.

The Hendrick Scholarship Foundation was created in 1991 to honor the 30-year tenure of H. Wayne Hendrick when he retired as superintendent of Plano schools. Hendrick, who celebrated his 90th birthday in June, will receive a special tribute this week from Lucy Berroteran of Honor Flight DFW honoring his WWII service that began with the Normandy Invasion.

Nefarious characters

Heritage Farmstead will host its annual evening of Murder and Mayhem, showcasing the nefarious characters involved in true crimes of Collin County on Oct. 24 at the Farmstead.

Moonlight and lanterns will light the way between spooky locales where Plano ISD drama instructors and students will tell tales of infamous crimes and notorious characters including Bonnie and Clyde, aliens in East Texas and, the piece de resistance, the trial of Hunter Farrell, the original owner of Heritage Farmstead. The Farmstead will pay tribute to the women of farm life through Nov. 9 with the exhibits “Woman’s Work is Never Done” and “Rural Texas Women at Work.”

Fashion teas, holiday shopping

Junior League of Collin County will host its annual American Girl fashion shows and tea parties for girls of all ages Oct. 25-26 at Heard Craig Hall, 306 Church St. in McKinney. An additional donation to JLCC will entitle junior members of the audience to participate as guest models during intermission in her very own commemorative T-shirt.

Fashion Show Tickets include admission to the 19th annual ’Neath the Wreath Holiday Gift Market from Nov. 5 to 9 at Plano Centre. The event begins with the legendary Ladies Night Out on Nov. 5 featuring VIP pre-shopping during a cocktail party and silent auction, and the promise of what has come to be regarded as a fabulous swag bag.
