Video: Enterovirus D68 outbreak sickens hundreds of children

Since mid-August, nearly 700 children nationwide have been sickened by enterovirus D68, also known as EV-D68. The outbreak has now spread across 46 states and has sickened 14 children in Texas.

The virus causes cold-like symptoms including fever and cough but in some kids, especially those with asthma, it can cause severe cough and problems breathing. Many children have been admitted to hospital with the infection.

At the same time, 17 children have had weakness and paralysis shortly after suffering a respiratory infection. Scientists and doctors are investigating if EV-D68 is related to the clusters of kids who have had weakness. Check out the video and our upcoming story for more information.
