Jimmy’s in goal

Jimmy Howard will return to the Detroit net tonight when the Wings take on the Caps on Rivalry Night on NBCSN. Howard hasn’t played since a stirring 4-3 OT win over Pittsburgh last Thursday — Jonas Gustavsson got the nod in Saturday’s loss to Philly — but does have solid numbers on the year: 3-1-2, 1.95 GAA, .929 save percentage.

For Washington, Braden Holtby will be back in goal after Justin Peters played in Sunday’s 4-2 loss to Vancouver. Holtby was good in his last outing, stopping 20 of 21 shots in a 3-1 win over Calgary.

Scrivens goes for Edmonton

The NHL’s reigning second star of the week will be in net tonight, as Ben Scrivens gets his seventh consecutive start for the Oilers. Scrivens is coming off his first shutout of the season on Monday, as he stopped all 29 shots faced in a 3-0 win over Montreal, and has now won four games in a row as Edmonton has rebounded from its dreadful 0-4-1 start to the campaign.

For Nashville, Pekka Rinne will be in goal tonight, looking to rebound from Saturday’s 3-0 loss to Pittsburgh.

Both Wing goalies have played relatively well.

Scoring is the issue… 25th out of 30 won’t cut it… and we all know what happens when we get to a shoot out.

Let’s Go Red Wings… score more goals!
