T-Pain: Rapper Sings ‘Buy U A Drank’ & Other Hits Without Auto-Tune — Watch

Wow! T-Pain makes an amazing comeback by performing his biggest hits sans his signature auto-tune, and you will be SO surprised by his incredible voice! Check it out right here!

Remember T-Pain? He became synonymous with auto-tune after switching up his pitches in the 2007 anthem “Buy U A Drank.” The rapper has been out of the spotlight for the past little while, but he is making some serious waves with this new, auto-tuneless performance!

T-Pain Sings Without Auto-Tune In Amazing NPR Tiny Desk Concert — Listen

We’re used to T-Pain, 29, cozying up to a ton of scantily-clad girls in his music videos, now we’re seeing him in a totally new light! NPR Music asked the rapper to perform for one of their infamous Tiny Desk Concerts. The Tiny Desk Concerts are (very) intimate gigs filmed in the NPR offices, with just a couple of people watching.

The rapper took NPR up on their challenge and appeared with nothing but keyboard player Toro and his own, real singing voice. He starts off visibly shy, and admits: “This is weird as hell for me… Never done anything like this.

“I know that everyone’s wondering where the auto-tune is going to come from, it’s okay I got it in my pocket,” he laughs, “it’s totally fine”.

Pain then goes on to belt out three songs –“Buy U A Drank,” “Up Down,” and “Drankin’ Patna” — in his incredible singing voice! His voice is soulful and husky, and we have to wonder why he ever decided to make auto-tune his trademark!

T-Pain Releasing A Greatest Hits Album On November 4

During his performance, T-Pain messes around and laughs right along with the totally stunned audience, making it clear that Pain is more than just a one-trick pony.

The singer received a lot of flack for his use of auto-tune, with critics saying that he used it to give his singing a little fix-up. Jay Z is just one of many outspoken celebs in the music community who is tired of the overuse of the technique.

We can’t get enough of this video and we are so looking forward to T-Pain’s upcoming greatest hits album, called T-Pain Presents Happy Hour: The Greatest Hits, set to drop November 4.

But what do you think, HollywoodLifers? Do you prefer T-Pain’s music with or without auto-tune? Let us know!
