Video: Ovechkin whiffs at one end, Nugent-Hopkins scores at the other

It hasn’t been a great night for Alex Ovechkin, at least through two periods against the Edmonton Oilers.
Here’s some evidence: Ovechkin, who is, as we’ve all seen, very capable of ripping the puck, whiffed on a wrist shot in the Edmonton zone, leading to a turnover and fast break up the ice for Oilers forward Ryan Nugent-Hopkins.
With speed down the right wing, Nugent-Hopkins beat Washington’s goalie Braden Holtby with a nice wrist shot of his own. The goal tied the game at two goals apiece. The Oilers took a 3-2 lead into the second intermission.
Ovechkin, well, he went two full periods without a shot on goal.

I tuned into this game near the end.
What did I say?
The Capitals look ugly to watch under Trotz. Nothing has changed at all.
I do find it funny how Sportsnet during intermissions really enjoys bashing Ovi and asking the question on whether or not he’s a coach killer. I think that’s taking things too far and there’s no indication he’s a cancer. However, this core is simply not designed to win anymore and a coach like Trotz who coaches a gritty game more, is the wrong move.
It’s John Tortorella (minus the antics) in Vancouver all over again.

What I find interesting is that Edmonton has now won 2 straight.
