Burnsville Pharmacist Pleads Guilty To Stealing Prescription Narcotics

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A pharmacist from Burnsville, Minn. has pleaded guilty to stealing roughly 67,000 doses of prescription narcotics from the pharmacy where she worked.

According to the United States Attorney’s Office, Anissa Jeanne Shores, 37, pleaded guilty to one count of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud.

Criminal charges state Shores was employed as a full-time pharmacist and was responsible for maintaining inventory records of controlled substances at a pharmacy in Burnsville.

The inventory process included accounting for the pharmacy’s receipt of the controlled substances in both written and computer logs.

According to criminal charges, in 2011 Shores began stealing hydrocodone, oxycodone, carisoprodol, diazepam and Tramadol, a non-controlled substance, for her personal use.

Shores said she falsified the pharmacy’s written and computer logs. She said she entered in a smaller amount that what the pharmacy received and then stole the omitted substances for her own use.

In her guilty plea Shores admitted to stealing roughly 67,000 dosages of the prescription drugs.

Shores was charged on Oct. 16 and plead guilty on Oct. 28.

The case is being prosecuted by the Assistant United States Attorney David M. Genrich.
