Best known for his portrayal of 'Male Fan' in the movie "Space Jam," he also apparently voices Homer J. Simpson on "The Simpsons" (along with Abraham "Grampa" Simpson, Barney Gumble, Krusty the Clown, Groundskeeper Willie, Mayor Quimby, Hans Moleman, Sideshow Mel, Itchy, Kodos, the Squeaky Voiced Teen and Gil Gunderson), not to mention the 'Robot Devil' from "Futurama", and many, many more - and in this humble redditor's opinion - a much overlooked candidate for funniest person of the last century.
It takes more than great writing to make comedy plutonium with lines such as:
"Or what!? You'll release the dogs, or the bees, or the dogs with bees in their mouths and when they bark they shoot bees at you?"
-or-
"I can't live the button-down life like you. I want it all... the terrifying lows, the dizzying highs, the creamy middles. Sure, I might offend a few of the bluenoses with my cocky stride and musky odors -- oh, I'll never be the darling of the so-called ‘City Fathers’ who cluck their tongues, stroke their beards, and talk about "What's to be done with this Homer Simpson?"
-or-
"Yeah, Moe, that team sure sucked last night. They just plain sucked. I've seen teams suck before but they were the suckiest bunch of sucks who ever sucked. Oh, I gotta go, my damn wiener kids are lookin' at me."
-and-
"I was wrestling wolves when you were still suckling at your mother's teat."
My 5 Questions:
- Were you always aware that you possessed genius comic timing?
- How much improvisation is involved in crafting an episode (and has this increased percentage-wise per season)?
- Was the anytime that you found something in the script offensive and were uneasy about performing the line?
- Of all the other animated shows you were involved in, was there one that you felt resonated like "The Simpsons"?
- Of all the celebrities and people of note that have guested on "The Simpsons", which one star-struck you the most?
- Was there some sort of nefarious scheme in the early seasons of "The Simpsons" to make practically all your celebrity guests on the show say "yoink?"
