Kevin Durant on emulating LeBron and going home: ‘just wait on it’ (Don’t overreact)

Four things you need to know before reading this Kevin Durant tweet.

1. LeBron James recently starred in a commercial that showed Akron, where he grew up, and him working out at St. Vincent St. Mary’s, his high school.

2. Durant grew up in Prince George’s County, commonly called PG.

3. Durant played basketball at Montrose Christian, a private school just outside DC.

4. DMV means the region containing the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia.

OK, let’s get to it:

This has quickly become a capital-T Thing. It shouldn’t be.

You think Durant is going to state his plan to sign with the Wizards in 2016 like this? In a Twitter reply?

I bet Durant will return to where he grew up. I bet he will work out while he’s home – though not at Montrose Christian, which parted ways with Durant’s coach – and think about how that area molded him. But that doesn’t mean he’ll sign with the Wizards.

Durant saying “just wait on it” was probably nothing more than clumsy wording on his part.

There are indications he could sign with the Wizards, but those are grasping at straws. This isn’t even that significant.

“just wait on it” is also lyrics in a drake song, about his album dropping in September, so that’s probably why KD used that phrasing. Nothing to do with OKC/Wiz in my opinion

Unless OKC negotiates a podunk market exception in the next CBA, where they can resign all their vets at a premium, nullifying any luxury taxes, and having any amounts exceeding the cap paid for by the large markets, all while still maintaining cap space for another max deal, Durant’s gone.

Just wait on it = Don’t count on it,

    She just wants the D

Durant needs to be all Avon Barksdale-like when he returns home.

So you’re saying Durant/Avon and Westbrook/Stringer are going to have a fateful conversation out on the balcony some night soon?

    DC doesn’t need KD!

    • ranfan12 - Oct 27, 2014 at 6:44 PM

Might not need him, but would be a hell of a lot better with him.

Wall, Beal, and Durant v. Kyrie, Love, and LeBron. That would be a nice rivalry in the East!

Sorry Dion Waiters, but you don’t add any spice to this. Will probably be traded for a shot blocking big.

Anyone catch that tweet from Alex trying to start some stuff? LOL

    “This isn’t even that significant.”

then why did you take the time to post this?

    • truehooper1421 - Oct 28, 2014 at 9:38 AM

Probably 95% of stuff I do at my job isn’t significant to me, but it’s my job.

I think KD will stay as long as they keep a solid supporting cast. If Morrow gets healthy and hits 3s that will help. Lamb needs to get it together this season or be traded. Re sign Jackson, Adams continue to develop.

Being in a “small market” and getting paid isn’t an issue. He gets a crap load of endorsements and OKC can offer the most money. KD is looking to win, I still think OKC will be the best fit.

    • whoaitstu - Oct 28, 2014 at 10:57 AM

KD is looking to win. With the flexibility the Wizards will have in 2016, they will be able to go and get not just him but other free agents as well. And of course, he’d be playing in the EAST. Also, Wale, Desean Jackson, and other Redskins players have said they will help recruit. The allure of attending Redskins games during the season I bet is very appealing to him.

Durant was already going to leave when his contract was up anyway, Durant and Westbrook are going to get annoyed with the cheap/dumb ownership and realize that trading away Harden meant they are never winning in OKC. A couple more seasons of Westbrook and Durant ALMOST making The Finals and or ALMOST winning a ring and they’ll go get a max contract somewhere else, the only reason why they wouldn’t do it is because Durant and Westbrook don’t want to split up, but they are never getting that 3rd peice to fit with the both of them in OKC so they’d end up leaving. Durant has no connections to OKC and it’s a boring town/bad weather, Durant is most likely going to the Wizards just because of the “going home” reason, he just saw Lebron get away with that so Durant would definitely get away with it with no backlash at all. But I don’t think the Wizards are the only team, after cheap owners he’ll probably want to go to just any team that’s almost contending but has owners that spend a lot, Durant would easily be able to bring talent with him to a new team if the owners want to spend. Teams that I think would be on his radar are Clippers, Grizzlies (depending where Marc Gasol goes), Rockets, Warriors, Suns, Celtics(depending where Rondo goes), and I’m a laker fan so you know us delusional fans will always say we could get the big stars lol. Kobe would be gone and Durant could come to the Lakers which have big spenders, and with Kobe gone other talent would follow Durant to the Lakers because it would be “their” team, Lakers are a huge market, good city/good weather, and he’d be the new face of the Lakers for this point in history, bringing a ring to the Lakers would be a storyline that the next superstar that comes to LA after Kobe leaves (Durant or anyone else), would create so much hype. Lakers are going back to contending in 3 years, everyone just wait and see.

The only team he would ever leave OKC for are the Wizards. He has hinted this for quite some time.
