While I continue to demand accountability from our local representatives, here are steps you can take now to fight red light camera fraud:
Sign the statewide petition: http://www.campaignforliberty.org/petitions/ban-the-red-light-cameras-in-texas/
Let your state legislator know that you support HB3304 to make it illegal for counties to refuse to register vehicles based on these tickets. Find out who to contact here: http://www.fyi.legis.state.tx.us/Home.aspx
Let your voice be heard!
Hi Russ,
Thanks for your continued efforts on this.
I saw on your website that you don’t think we can get a local vote on removing the cameras in Denton.
Can you explain the why behind this?

Thanks for keeping up with the blog Tom,
On the petition – In part, I’ve received advice from someone with experience in the matter that a petition may not be the best way to go but it is still an option. The city rules for petitions aren’t clear on how to go about changing existing ordinances (unless the petition is filed very soon after the ordinance is approved) so there will be legalities and technical hurdles which, if other communities are any indication, the city will turn to the camera operators legal team to navigate. Because of this, I’ve focused on exposing the corruption of the program and trying to educate the citizens of Denton before other action is taken. From my understanding, the city has already locked into, I believe, another five year contract which will start in July, so they have no intention of letting this go.
Thanks again!
