Pizza bar that doubles as wine delivery service expected to open on Henderson Avenue

Yes: wine delivery.

Once upon a time, pizza’s biggest foe was the Noid, a 1980s Domino’s television advertisement mascot representing annoyed customers waiting for pizza delivery. These days, the biggest scare in the pizza industry would be falling behind the trend of the moment. (Celebrity spokespeople  and crusts stuffed with stuff seem to be big right now with chains.)

A new place opening on Henderson Avenue in Dallas called Pie Tap Pizza Workshop + Bar has its own secret sauce: revolving ovens.

Developed by Mooyah Burgers Fries & Shakes CEO Rich Hicks, under his newly established Reach Restaurant Group (which also includes Ojos Locos Sports Cantina), Pie Tap will sell pizza, salads, sandwiches and gelato, as well as wine, beer and craft cocktails. The biggest revolution, however, comes in its two custom-built Italian ovens, which are supposed to create a crispier crust, according to CultureMap. Toppings include house-cured meats and cheeses, says the Dallas Business Journal.

Pie Tap is expected to open in March or early summer 2015, the DBJ reports.

While comparisons to Cane Rosso and the nearby Fireside Pies seem inevitable, Pie Tap has a few tricks up its sleeve. It will foster duel sit-down and to-go identities, with a delivery option that also includes delivered wine and beer, reports CultureMap. Yes, you read that correctly: At-home customers can further fight the Noid by cracking open a cold boy while enjoying delivered-to-their-doorstep ‘za.

The design includes an industrial feel to emphasize the idea of a pizza “workshop,” the DBJ says.
