People have been oohing and ahhing over Klyde Warren Park since it opened in 2012, and now the attraction is earning national recognition: It was named the winner of Urban Land Institute's prestigious Urban Open Space Award.

The award is designed to honor public spaces that have socially and economically enriched and revitalized their communities. Klyde Warren Park beat out four other finalists, including Columbus Commons and Scioto Mile in Columbus, Ohio; Guthrie Green in Tulsa, Oklahoma; Railyard Park and Plaza in Santa Fe, New Mexico; and Washington Park in Cincinnati, Ohio.

The announcement of the award, and its corresponding $10,000 gift, coincided with the park's second anniversary, which it celebrated on October 25.

"The national recognition from ULI is an incredible honor," Klyde Warren Park president Tara Green said in a release. "It attests to the enormous impact that Klyde Warren Park has had on Dallas and demonstrates the power of public green space."

In addition to the ULI award, Klyde Warren Park has continued to raise its profile over the past year, earning LEED Gold certification and hosting multiple big events, including the U.S. Conference of Mayors and a World Cup watch party.
