Former cast member at Disneyland. It's pretty much everyone's job to pump out as much magic and courtesy to every single person ever that you come across. To this day I still point with two fingers and feel offended if employees almost everywhere else don't smile or greet me. Of course everyone is trained to behave in this way doesn't mean everyone will. Can definitely say this guy is going above and beyond his day to day to make this family have an even better time. Disney cast members love this stuff. Often giving away trading pins, finding that one special hat you just can't find anywhere, giving out roses, greeting little girls and boys and prince and princess.

If you get the chance to meet someone awesome like this man please do him a favor and leave him a guest compliment at city hall. It's an honor to be recognized in front of management or other employees by someone visiting the park. These men and women go day in day out dealing with thousands of happy, emotional, angry, even horrible people. If they make your day please make theres :)

[–]ColdSheep 11 points12 points  (15 children)

Why do you point with two fingers?

[–]Im_bored_yo 45 points46 points  (7 children)

Because in most cultures pointing with one is rude. So to be mindful to everyone at disney you point with two.

[–]Burgher_NY 24 points25 points  (2 children)

You just cracked an egg of knowledge all over me.

[–]hunterscreed 3 points4 points  (1 child)

That's kinky.

[–]PM_ME_YOUR_SUNSETS 8 points9 points  (1 child)

[–]dolladollakrillyall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

*gasp!

[–]Staxxy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Woah, never heard of this. My "point" gesture is more like some wave-ish mix anyway.

[–]pingucat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

so awesome

[–]xspixels 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fun fact : the two finger Disney point came from Walt's chain smoking. Nearly all photos of him have the cigarettes removed, but he is always holding his index and middle fingers together. Walt was a notorious smoker, he was known to have multiple cigarettes lit at a time.

[–]thekenzo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My parents treated my family (myself, wife, son, and disabled daughter) to a trip to Disneyland. We were having a less than stellar time because our daughter couldn't really do anything and we didn't want to have one parent ride while the other waited, etc.

A cast member saw us sitting off to the side looking down and she talked to us to find out what we needed. She saved the day by recommending all these different rides we could transfer our daughter out of her wheelchair for as long as we propped her up.

Beyond that, she noticed that our daughter gets cranky around louder noises and crowds. We honestly tried to minimize this with headphones. She was able to sneak us in to meet the princesses for a photo session and give us fast passes for a few rides we really truly wanted to get her on.

When she was born, my wife made a promise to get her to Disneyland if she made it past her first birthday. It took us 8 years, but we made it there. The cast members really are amazing and we can never thank them enough for saving our vacation.

[–]gbenner88 725 points726 points  (96 children)

The cast members at Disney World are really cool when it come to the little Princesses. My daughter did the Bibbity Bobbity Boutique and was in her princess dress for most of the day. Most if not all cast members would treat her as royalty. Bowing and saying, "Hello Princess." It made her trip that much more special.

[–]Addestratore 610 points611 points  (29 children)

Yea, this was definitely the best part about going to Disney as a parent. When my daughter dressed up it fell on a day that was kinda rainy, so she has a coat over her princess dress a lot. A couple of times an employee would drop to knee and say "my apologies princess I didn't recognize you in your disguise."

[–]Corpsman223 69 points70 points  (17 children)

[–]Aeyrie 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Don't feel too bad. It's not easy for a native English speaker.

[–]MundiMori 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do they do it if you just dress your kid up as a princess yourself? I don't even have kids yet but already feel guilty not spending $194 on the super princess package and having everyone bow to them...

[–]amorousCephalopod 4 points5 points  (9 children)

And a goddamn great way to sell dresses that those kids will grow out of almost instantly.

[–]Corpsman223 18 points19 points  (8 children)

Yes. But. She REALLY loved it. We bought the dress a little big and she still uses it in her dress up box. They make it really special for the kids all day. I would recommend doing it early so she gets the experience of being a princess for the whole day. It costs a lot... like hundreds by the time it was all said and done. It was honestly worth the cash. It makes you sound like a sucker, but I'm a sucker for her, so there you go.

[–]MittRomneysPlatform 8 points9 points  (6 children)

I'm a sucker for her

You are a wonderful parent :')

[–]amorousCephalopod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it totally sounds worth it. Those people at the Disney parks know exactly what they're selling and know exactly how to make it as magical as possible. Sometimes their employee training policies seem to border on the extreme, but after hearing about all the great things the employees who stay there do, you can only really admire the end result and the individual's dedication.

[–]mewnsea 25 points26 points  (2 children)

Ditto with my daughter. Everyone went out of their way for the birthday princess. Gave her free pins, dessert every night. Best moment.... she is in a gift shop and only had 5 dollars of her money left. She asks the guy working what she can get for 5 dollars. He asks what she likes and she responds with tinkerbell. He grabs a 30 dollar tinkerbell, hands it to a cashier, and says this is 5 dollars today. Edit: spelling

[–]yourotherusername 34 points35 points  (3 children)

I can't say enough good things about our trip there. We had friends who tried to talk us out of going, and to instead go somewhere 'real'. Fuck that! I want to let my kids pretend! (and me too!) It was the most exhausting vacation I have ever been on but worth every penny in memories.

[–]BrownNote 13 points14 points  (2 children)

Heh, I still go to Disney regularly with people around my age and no kids are involved at all. There's something you can really appreciate about how they pull you into another world. Something that gets lost on children, but makes it still attractive for adults to go.

[–]siegewolf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nothing like getting drunk around the world!

[–]sparklyjesus 15 points16 points  (1 child)

Isn't that were Bill Cosby gets his hair done?

[–]Voodoo_Tiki 1 point2 points  (1 child)

We try our best to make your vacation the best. Hope each visit is as great as the last for you

[–]Simify 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As a 24 year old man...

I really want to do that ;_;

[–]acexprt 2 points3 points  (1 child)

It's all part of the training.

[–]runtheplacered 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's his point. The kids can have a consistently amazing time at Disney, you know, because of training.

[–]GEARHEADGus 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I'm assuming cast members is what the park calls its employees?

[–]BigDrunkPartyAnimal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did that with my niece the day we left Disney. The best part was a Delta pilot at the airport escorting us to cut the 90 minute security line because, "a princess shouldn't have to wait".

[–]bogidyboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't plan on ever having kids, but that sounds so damn adorable

[–]NagisaK 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Their business is based on kids so being mean to them and their fantasy would be shooting their own foot.

[–]runtheplacered 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not calling them princess would be mean? The point is, they go above and beyond.

[–]Strokeslahoma 50 points51 points  (17 children)

Security doesn't even wear blue shirts at Disneyland anymore. How old is this?

[–]acexprt 34 points35 points  (1 child)

Good catch that's disneyworld.

[–]thej00ninja 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Can confirm Disney World.

[–]Adent42 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That isn't Disneyland. It must be Disneyworld.

[–]hiimnoam64[S] 18 points19 points  (10 children)

Pretty old, it's from 2008, i just stumbled upon it in an article and wanted to share here.

[–]Electric_unicorn 22 points23 points  (9 children)

it feels weird to read "really old" and "2008" in the same sentence... I am getting old...

[–]princeps_fossor 8 points9 points  (8 children)

Maybe you are, but 2008 isn't really old, too.

[–]Zarfi 0 points1 point  (7 children)

Yeah... you'd be turning six if you were born than, so definitely not that old.

[–]happy_otter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's from the time they only had one security guard.

Halloween soon.

[–]supdunez 23 points24 points  (2 children)

Ya know, going to Disneyland is expensive, but the characters and staff do their hardest to make it a unique and fun experience for everyone. If it were just about the rides or the characters, it wouldn't be nearly as great. The staff really seem to care, and they work hard to make the trip special.

My sister interned with Disney in Florida, and the pains they make to insure guests have a fun and memorable experience are crazy.

[–]selusa 17 points18 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid (about her age), we were first in line at the gate that morning. They picked me up and over the rail, had me stand on one of the bench things that little girl is standing on, then wave at the ticket takers to tell them to open the gates.

One of my fondest memories of someone doing something nice for me, trying to make me feel special. Really was magical.

[–]dankowalski 90 points91 points  (15 children)

That's Disney World not DisneyLand.

[–]PenisInBlender 15 points16 points  (1 child)

Pfff, it's been a cool summer, foliage timeline has been accelerated.

It's clearly June 9th.

[–]friedpikmin 17 points18 points  (6 children)

What are you? The Disney Nazi?

[–]Greatdrift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

/r/Disney There are dozens of us!

[–]memetunis 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We were taking a rest and my niece was complaining about having to do homework while on vacation. The security guard came up and wrote up a ticket to her for pouting in Disney. He made such a fuss with the ticket and played the role so well. The kids were hysterical. Her fine was fastpasses on a ride. It was a really great memory for our family vacation.

[–]dlan4327 128 points129 points  (6 children)

Pfft. It's fine for him but when I do it, I'm luring innocent kids into my pedo wagon. Whatever the fuck that means.

[–]CipherDyne 33 points34 points  (4 children)

All I'm sayin' is that if you want to keep a low profile, you shouldn't refer to your van as "the bouncy house".

[–]zodar 19 points20 points  (1 child)

And now I have to change my fucking "7THHEVN" license plates.

[–]IamYourShowerCurtain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh, it's bouncy alright. Oh, yes!

[–]hiimnoam64[S] 73 points74 points  (36 children)

[–]SoulardSTL 116 points117 points  (32 children)

This dude's awesome, and he embodies everything Walt Disney sought to create when he made these parks. And I certainly hope the Walt Disney Corporation gives him a raise for all the goodwill he's earning them.

[–]vbaby 12 points13 points  (0 children)

While it's a nice story, it's also kind of required. They teach you in training to do this. It's part of the job at any of the parks.

[–]RedlineChaser 24 points25 points  (15 children)

I completely agree. Well...I dunno about a raise. That might be a stretch, but that is the Disney experience. Friendly, helpful, clean facilities...Disney gets it.

[–]supdunez 40 points41 points  (13 children)

He completely deserves a raise. This is above and beyond his duties. He's learning new languages to say "have a magical day", the image went viral, and is a powerful and free way to increase PR.

Why wouldn't he deserve a raise?

[–]dmcc16 18 points19 points  (0 children)

HE DESERVES A RAISE!

[–]RedlineChaser 0 points1 point  (8 children)

Read the article in our parent comment. This isn't particularly special. He is doing his job. I know that's a lost art these days when everyone feels like they're special and reinventing the wheel, but it's not.

So he deserves a raise? The retired man killing time to avoid his wife's honey-do lists and not, for example, a younger security starting a family who has been there longer and equally good with visitors?

[–]NotoriousVader 4 points5 points  (4 children)

Lol love how you assume you know his life.

[–]RedlineChaser 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Not much guessing required. It's in the linked article and this thread. Aren't the folks screaming "RAISE" making assumptions???

All I said was maybe. Nothing to go getting a hard-on about.

[–]NotoriousVader 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Yeah, I don't agree with a raise considering this is probably in the employee guide. Sorry shouldn't have directly called you out.

[–]felixfelix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

...or at least treat him to a vacation at another theme park - Hedonism.

[–]eldeeder[🍰] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree with you, but my cousin worked at Disneyworld for a while. They don't spare anything, and they do pay well. Not to negate this man's kindness, but what he's doing is par for the course there.

[–]Route22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I remember someone like him. My niece was dressed up in a full body Mickey Mouse costume she had insisted on wearing. When we approached the bag check, one guard said, "Look alive fellas, here comes the boss"

[–]havoc21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Freddie truly is an awesome guy, I was hired with him in January 2008 and was in the same security training class.

He truly is one of the nicest guys I have met, and as you can all see he really loves his job.

I have since moved on to a different line of work, but we actually ran into him at Magic Kingdom bag check last week.

Great to see that he is still there passing on the Disney magic.

[–]MaritMonkey 11 points12 points  (0 children)

He puts children at ease when searching their bags by telling them he’s looking for red apples because Snow White is afraid of them.

What a nice human being.

[–]phasers_to_stun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want to hug this guy

[–]ccmac86 48 points49 points  (15 children)

Every cast member is suppose to do this. Most merchandise/restaurants have an autograph book in their till or podium for this.

[–]oodleskaboodles 36 points37 points  (7 children)

Not mandatory, just nice to go out of your way sometimes.

Edit: since this got confusing. He said every cast member is supposed to do this (as in have autograph books), no theyre not. Yes we call them princesses but ive seen very few with actual autograph books, and ive yet to see any in my area have them at all. The ones I see are a restaurant or as been stated a merch shop.

I understand hes making the magic and yes hes going above and beyond. We all do something different to make everyone feel special, this is just his way.

[–]skeeveholt 57 points58 points  (0 children)

It's sort of like how Brian has 37 pieces of flair but you only have 15, and even though you're only required to have 15 pieces of flair, we really want you to want to express yourself.

[–]sleepy55 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It kind of is mandatory. The guard mentions that the idea of asking guests for their autographs is part of his training.

I don't think it diminishes what he does, Disney just makes sure to select the kind of people who make it part of their routine to go out of their way to make guests happy.

[–]ccmac86 8 points9 points  (3 children)

No, not mandatory, but strongly suggested.

[–]acexprt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's called "making the magic"

[–]phasers_to_stun 6 points7 points  (6 children)

But he's not doing it because the park encourages it. He's doing it because he genuinely likes to see the kids light. He genuinely wants to add magic to their day. That's a rare specimen.

[–]two 8 points9 points  (5 children)

There's a reason he works at Disney. They instill a certain culture in their employees, and they hire people who promote that culture. Disney actively seeks "rare specimens."

[–]phasers_to_stun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The last time I was there the girl who lead us through tower of terror was unbelievable. Her character was flawless and she was so proud of it, too! This is almost a year ago and I'm still talking about her; she made the trip that much better.

[–]Spoonfeedme 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Unemployed people in the Orlando area?

[–]Dr_ChimRichalds 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I worked at both Walt Disney World and Universal Studios. There's no comparison in the vetting process. During my interview with Studios, I overheard another candidate in an adjacent cubicle say he wanted the job because he needed money. He was offered the job.

[–]nagumi 0 points1 point  (1 child)

And at disney?

[–]lshiva 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I thought it was cute too, until I saw five kids in pirate costumes all waiting in line at the gallows.

[–]wafflepizza 3 points4 points  (1 child)

A friend of mine used to work for disney world. She said this was pretty common practice. they encouraged employees to treat kids like royalty. the world needs more of that.

[–]TokyoXtreme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well in Japan, the kids are often treated like royalty; little king Jeffreys all over the place. I suspect it's even worse in China.

[–]Hobbs54 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When the staff gets into it, that is great. I recently went to a dinner theater in Edmonton. It was these guys: http://edmonton.jubilations.ca/ and the show was Pirates of the North Saskatchewan river. It was several hours of entertainment with staff that sang and danced and acted. Between show breaks, while meals were served, the cast would come out into the audience and be available for pictures, whatever you wanted. They would always maintain character tho because your waiter did as well.

[–]likmbch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I knew your title was wrong! It was Disney world! I met him when I worked on the boats in front of magic kingdom. We shared the same break room with a lot of the security guards.

[–][deleted] 28 points29 points  (47 children)

I remember one time visiting my Grandma on the east coast (where most of my family live), my 4 year old cousin walks up to me, fully dressed like in the picture.

She said "I'm a princess :)" and I said "No you're not!" and she started crying.

They take that shit seriously.

[–]WildShenanigans 13 points14 points  (46 children)

Oh so will your kids never get to believe in Santa either?

[–]AnonFlux7 2 points3 points  (2 children)

[–]TallMime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is the kind of cool "in character" stuff that happens at Disney. Literally, if you work at the park and are in public you have to be in character.

[–]playingnice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's either giving her a ticket or getting her hotel room number.

[–]ChanningMasturbatum 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Cool, good to know he's still doing this. Strange, though, that little girl never seems to age.

[–]Deanimal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen this guy before, he's been doing it for years and has a huge collection of autographs`

[–]Zerod0wn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just got back from a week at DisneyWorld for my 3 year old daughter. The amount of effort the Disney Cast put into making it special for her was just out of the world. I have grown up gripes about the Disney resort system, but damn if there wasn't someone there to always make her smile from just a simple want at check in, from a guard escorting her to see Ariel because she was frantic looking around constantly to see Ariel. We had fun, but they made special for my daughter.

[–]SpotMickey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go to the parks often and this guy is great! Once a little girl asked why they have to go through bag check and he went into a long story about a lady who snuck a poison apple in and how its never been the same since. He captivated the young girl and gave the adults a good chuckle. Great example of a CM who goes the extra distance to add some magic to a visit

This happens all the time. Source: former Disney cast member

[–]rannie_pophe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aww! That is so sweet of him.

[–]cupcakessuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That dude genuinely enjoys his job.

[–]pullingURstrings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Melted my heart.

[–]SabaBoBaba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I retire, I want to get a job like this just so I can make some child's day. You know this guy goes home with a smile on his face.

[–]breakingbadjessie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See today nobody can do something as sweet as this or its child molestation.

[–]MakaiTenshi 1 point2 points  (1 child)

It is a touching moment until you find out that the guy doesn't even work there

[–]effingeenyus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The little girl isn't even phazed, she's just like "yes, this is right."

[–]bigdaddymat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a sting operation, The officer then arrested her for impersonating a member of the royal family and she was promptly beheaded for treason!

[–]catsluvme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is priceless! She will remember this forever. I used to work at Disneyland- (restaurant) I never knew they did this

[–]garshol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is how you do Security.

[–]Corrupt-Spartan 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Lol Reddit you guys make all these pedo jokes but if one of yall sees a story about a guy who gets weird glances at a park just because of his gender you flip out.

[–]yourotherusername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get what you are saying, it's a valid question.

I've been treated like a pedo at the park in my home town, but when we went to Disney last year they just saw(treated) me as a father enjoying time with his children. I never felt judged at Disney. Maybe because they see it all the time and aren't freaked out by it.

[–]All_The_Ragrets 2 points3 points  (2 children)

All you did was lower the resolution and crop it. This picture is years old.

[–]RDB2005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]UltravioIence 4 points5 points  (0 children)

[–]dnl101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder how many of the kids don't catch on to that and are like 'wtf are you talking about?'

[–]50PercentLies -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Repost, but I don't even care

[–]Dawn_Of_The_Dave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talk about Mickey Mouse cops.

[–]LargeBody76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And the guard looks like Genie from Aladdin with that big ass gut.

[–]trustedsource 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a complicated scene.

I'll just take your word for it that this is cute.

[–]needstherapy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a big part of why I love Disneyland.
