Here’s Benedict Cumberbatch in a Feminist T-Shirt

All the Cumberbitches are pretty excited

Well, looks like Mr. Benedict Cumberbatch is the latest male celebrity to proudly embrace the f-word. Behold:

ELLE UK called on the Sherlock actor to pose in a t-shirt featuring the slogan “This is what a feminist looks like,” created by equality campaigning organization the Fawcett Society. As part of its upcoming feminism issue, the magazine recruited Cumberbatch — along with other actors like Tom Hiddleston and Joseph Gordon-Levitt — to show their support.

Naturally, Cumberbatch’s many fans (also known as Cumberbitches) are pretty excited.

Here are Gordon-Levitt and Hiddleston:

Watch Ice Cube Perform Magic Tricks on Sesame Street

Yup, this a former N.W.A member hanging out with Elmo

In what was probably the least gangster rap thing he’s ever done, rapper-turned-actor Ice Cube stopped by Sesame Street this week to kick it with Elmo.

He starts off with a quick vocabulary lesson (he teaches Elmo the meaning of the word “astounding”) and then performs a series of magic tricks. He runs through the usual suspects: making a large coin disappear, making something jump out of a top hat and so on. But the pièce de résistance comes at the end when he turns himself into an ACTUAL ICE CUBE. Get it?

For whatever reason, Mr. Cube did not use this appearance as an opportunity to promote his new album, Everythang’s Corrupt.

Celebrate National Cat Day With the Most Ridiculous Cover in TIME History

Dec. 7, 1981, cover of TIME
The Dec. 7, 1981, cover of TIME Neil Leifer

Yes, a sassy feline once sat inside the magazine's red border

Today is National Cat Day — even though it kind of feels like every day is National Cat Day on the Internet. To celebrate this momentous occasion, we decided to take a look back at a key moment in TIME’s history: that time in 1981 when cats were the most important news of the week.

It’s true. On Dec. 7, 1981, TIME’s cover featured a green-eyed feline model paired with the cover line “CATS: Love ‘em! Hate ‘em!” The corresponding story, called “Crazy Over Cats,” declared the animals a “national mania.” Fun fact: Maureen Dowd, then a young TIME correspondent, was a reporter and researcher on the story, which outlined humans’ complex relationship with felines. As J.D. Reed wrote:

From deification to demonization, and every stage in between, attitudes toward cats have been confused, variable, peculiar, consuming, jittery and, ultimately, baffling. Those sinuous forms represented in Egyptian art, valued as rodent-chasers by farmers, or draped luxuriously over an apartment radiator have elicited the best and worst from mankind in the 5,000 years since their domestication. The dog may be man’s best friend, but the cat is his most perplexing one, if, indeed, he is one at all.

Though this cover was obviously a very silly one, it should be noted that plenty of other TIME covers have been just as ridiculous — especially in 1981, for some reason. (See: this one about ice cream, and this one about fitness.) Few, however, have been quite so prescient. More than three decades ago, TIME knew that cats were nothing to LOL about.

The Dec. 7, 1981, cover story is now available free of charge in TIME’s archives. Click here to read it in its entirety: Crazy Over Cats

We Love This Beyoncé/Taylor Swift Mashup Like XO

Seriously, who knew how well "Out of the Woods" and "XO" would sound together?

People have tried mashing up Beyoncé and Taylor Swift in the past, but those efforts have often yielded pretty dreadful results. This time, however, things went pretty well.

Some beautiful soul decided to take Tay’s “Out of the Woods,” from her new album 1989, and Bey’s “XO,” from last year’s self-titled surprise album, and blend them together for this unexpectedly lovely mashup. It features the beat from “Out of the Woods” paired with Bey’s vocals — so no, sadly, Tay doesn’t sing at all, but it’s okay. Tay has had plenty of time to shine this week.

This Video Shows What It’s Like to Go Hunting as a Lion in the Wilds of Africa

It's almost like it's YOUR teeth sinking into the neck of a wild buck!

Self-proclaimed “Lion Whisperer” Kevin Richardson decided to take a GoPro camera and strap it to the back of a daring lioness named Meg as she prowls through the wild plains of South Africa. He trails a few feet behind her, offering commentary (in his awesome South African accent) as she stalks her prey.

Don’t worry, the video isn’t too graphic — but it does show the lioness taking down a wild back around 2 and a half minutes in, so be aware.

Watch Wilco Celebrate Its 20th Anniversary on The Tonight Show

Frontman Jeff Tweedy also plays a rousing game of charades

Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy has spent the past few months making music with his son (in their duo very cleverly called Tweedy). But on Monday night, he gathered the Wilco guys so they could all perform on The Tonight Show as part of the band’s 20th anniversary celebration. First, they played “A Magazine Called Sunset” from their 2003 EP More Like the Moon, which you can watch above. Later, they hit their 2002 track “Cars Can’t Escape” as a web exclusive:

Then Tweedy joined Jimmy Fallon, Charles Barkley and Ewan McGregor for a game of charades, because why not:

Here’s Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ Sung in 20 Different Musical Styles

Just in time for Halloween, the spooky song gets a makeover

Ever wondered what “Thriller” would sound like performed by Stevie Wonder? Or Rick Astley? Or the Spice Girls? Probably not, but you get to experience it anyway. Singer Anthony Vincent, the guy behind the YouTube channel Ten Second Songs, took Michael Jackson’s spooky smash hit and sang it in 20 different styles in under five minutes. He channels everyone from Busta Rhymes to Ozzy Osbourne to Robert Johnson with impressive accuracy.

We’ll probably stick with the original next time we feel like listening to “Thriller,” but still.

Watch John Cale’s Tribute to Lou Reed One Year After His Death

The former Velvet Underground member shares an emotional new version of his song "If You Were Still Around"

It’s been exactly one year since rock legend Lou Reed died at age 71. To pay tribute, Reed’s former Velvet Underground bandmate John Cale released a re-recording of his 1982 tune “If You Were Still Around.” The video mixes new footage of an emotional, tearful Cale with old footage of Reed.

Cale also shared a statement, Pitchfork reports, alluding to the rockers’ at times contentious relationship:

A Moth and a Candle met. They decided to become friends. Everyone enjoyed watching their discourse – especially the risk takers. Then one day a big rain came. The Moth couldn’t fly and the Candle puttered out. Everyone laughed in bitter awe and blamed the rain. Most however knew the deeper truth – the Candle remains lit and the Moth will stay close.
