The San Francisco Giants are once again the champions of baseball. On Wednesday night, the Giants downed the Royals, 3-2, in Game 7 of the World Series in Kansas City to capture the team's third title since 2010.
The Giants took an early 2-0 lead in the second inning, only to watch starter Tim Hudson give up a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning to erase the lead. From there, however, San Francisco's bullpen, led by ace starter Madison Bumgarner, completely shut down the Royals' lineup, throwing 7 1/3 innings of scoreless ball. Bumgarner, in particular, was dominant once again, hurling five shutout innings and striking out four, with just two baserunners allowed.
Bumgarner finished with just one run allowed in 21 innings, including wins in Games 1, 5 and 7. For that, he was named the MVP of the World Series, his second MVP award this postseason.
