Police clarify identity of driver in high-speed chase

LINDALE, TX (KLTV) - Lindale police have released the identify of the driver involved in a high-speed chase on Oct. 17.

Officials originally thought the man was named Carlos Bonilla but have now confirmed that the suspect's name is Jesus Pedro Perez, 22,

Perez led officers on a high-speed chase after police attempted to make a routine traffic stop. A sergeant attempted to pull over the silver Ford Expedition Perez was driving, and as he approached the vehicle, the driver showed a weapon before fleeing the area. The Smith County Sheriff's Office said the chase began just south of Lindale around 9:30 p.m.

The pursuit led officers down Jim Hogg Road, where police say the driver shot at an officer's patrol unit. According to the Smith County Sheriff's Office, the pursuit continued down Highway 69 North, and finally ended when the vehicle wrecked near Glenwood Street north of Gentry Parkway in Tyler. The driver and passengers exited the vehicle and fled on foot down Garden Valley Road.

Jesus Flores Jr, 27, a passenger, was captured by police for evading arrest. Another passenger of the vehicle, Thomas Ocampo, 25, was also arrested for public intoxication.
