Company to loan fever screening monitors to Dallas ISD schools impacted by Ebola virus

Dallas-based Wello is loaning fever screening monitors for a few weeks to Dallas ISD schools that have been impacted by the Ebola virus. A fever is an early symptom of the virus.

The monitors read temperature without touch using an orbital camera that travels across the face.

“We think it will be a great service to the community,” said Alan Bach, a company representative.

Five DISD schools are receiving extra health services and cleaning after five students were identified as having contact with an Ebola patient. The students have been removed from the campuses for three weeks for monitoring by Dallas County Health and Human Services.

The students attend Conrad High School, Tasby Middle School, and Hotchkiss and Rogers elementary schools. Lowe Elementary is also part of the group because it is attached to Tasby.

DISD will begin using the fever screening monitors on Monday.

DISD spokesman Jon Dahlander said that the monitors will be in the school clinics. He said they will be used on students who are not feeling well or may be exhibiting signs of fever.
