Purpose
The Homeland Security program provides communities with technical assistance in planning for emergency preparedness by identifying potential safety threats and security weaknesses and by developing local emergency management plans to meet those identified needs.  The Homeland Security program encourages efficiency by assisting jurisdictions in administering federal and state programs that benefit from regional cooperation and to eliminate duplication of services.

Mission
AACOG Homeland Security provides guidance, coordination, development and implementation of programs pertaining to First Responders, Homeland Security or Emergency Preparedness. Some of the many programs include the First Responder Strategic Plan, the Alamo Area Regional Mitigation Action Plan, Interoperability, Threat and Risk Assessment, Mutual Aid, and Citizen Corps.  These programs are dedicated to supporting the Alamo region's first responders through maximum disaster preparedness and answering citizens' calls for emergency services.

Service Area
The Alamo Region is 11,354 square miles with a population of 2,249,011--an increase of approximately 24% since 2000.  There are 12 counties in the Alamo Region: Atascosa, Bandera, Bexar, Comal, Frio, Gillespie, Guadalupe, Karnes, Kendall, Kerr, Medina and Wilson counties.
