Luis Lopez for HD132 ~ Running to Ensure a Prosperous Texas

First, the video:

Luis Lopez is a young Texan running for Texas House District 132. If you live in HD-132, Luis needs your vote, but he also needs all Texans to contribute what you can. $5, $10, $25–he will spend it wisely to Get Out The Vote from now until Election Day. Contribute TODAY at this link.

luisLuis Lopez was born in Mexico and arrived to the USA at the age of 7. He was raised with 4 sisters and 3 brothers. Luis has known challenges throughout his life, but he has also worked hard to overcome them.  His brother was deported at the age of 15. Luis worked in construction within local refineries in Beaumont through high school and college. During high school he founded a youth LULAC Council, developed the Hispanic Forum, and graduated 4th in his class.

Luis is a proud graduate of Lamar University where he earned his Bachelors and Master’s Degree in Accounting in 4 ½ years. In college he managed a school board campaign, led efforts for the DREAMers on campus, established a chapter of the oldest Latino fraternity in existence, and founded a small logistics & transportation business.

Luis was recruited by the top international accounting firm in the USA and relocated to Katy upon graduating. He and his wife Guadalupe are proud parents of their beautiful one year-old daughter Abigail Lorenza. Luis Lopez is the Democratic candidate for State Representative, District 132.

District 132 needs an innovator, like Luis, and not more of the same. Instead of doing the bidding for big business and big contributors, Luis Lopez thinks it’s time to give the district back to the people. So, join his campaign, give a few dollars, and vote for Luis Lopez.

District 132’s Early Voting Location is at the Franz Road Storefront, or at any early voting location until Friday at 7pm.

Thursday: Leticia and Little Joe in Houston

ljoe

He’s been a very public supporter of Wendy Davis and Leticia Van de Putte at his concerts, so, it is great to hear that Jose Maria de Leon Hernandez–Little Joe–will be in Houston on Thursday to rally support for Van de Putte.

Little Joe (and his brother Johnny who now lives in California) has deep roots in Texas political culture and has always been up to the task of rallying the people for anything having to do with voting, legislation, and even public health issues like diabetes. He’s still a prominent voice for change and progress, especially in the Mexican American community.

Here are the details for the rally and performance:

Houston THURSDAY 5:30pm
CWA Hall, 1730 Jefferson St., Downtown Houston

UHD Student Leaders Bring “Walk to Vote”!
Empowering The Student Body Houston Use Their Constitutional Rights!!

Not a UHD Student? Join and vote with us!!
#Walk2Vote #W2V #YouthRevolution #Oct23 #1pm

HOUSTON, TX –Hundreds of students will unite and march to the vote this Oct 23, 2014!! University of Houston-Downtown students vow to unite and play a critical role in the November elections as they pledge to walk to vote. Our student leaders resolve to empower all UHD students to get out and vote.

mayorIn 2012, the Student Government Association (SGA), started an initiative at UHD that aimed to empower students by registering them to vote and take action. From the month of August to October of 2012, the SGA was able to register 2,500 students to vote. During early voting in 2012, the SGA then hosted the Walk 2 Vote event which was attended by over 700 students, the Mayor and other distinguished guests. Following a brief rally, together we continued and marched with over 300 students at the same time and voted. The results at the UHD were truly unprecedented, as over 55% of the student population voted at UHD in 2012, compared to other University counterparts at 5-15% according to the Center for Information & Research on Civic Learning and Engagement (CIRCLE) at Tufts University.

Since the beginning of the fall 2014 semester, various student organizations have passionately competed with one another in an effort to see who could register the most voters. To date, we have registered over 1,500 students who will now be eligible to vote in the November elections. In honor of this, the Student Government Association has orchestrated an event to encourage our students to vote and inspire them to let their voices be heard.

Join us on Oct 23rd on the UHD’s South Deck from 1:00pm to 2:00pm as we celebrate our achievements and exercise our constitutional right to vote.

Van de Putte Ad: A Matter of Trust

Endorsement: Vote Straight Ticket Democrat

Monday, 10/20/14, is the first day of Early Voting and DosCentavos.net urges you to vote a STRAIGHT DEMOCRATIC TICKET.

I should also mention, where there is no “D” but there is a Green Party candidate, I will vote for the “greenie.” No, I won’t vote for Libertarians. And Republicans? Now, that’s a laugh. If all I have is an “R” I’m skipping that race.

There are some races where a Republican high-spanic is running. In these races, I urge my Chicano/Latino family to NOT vote for them just because of their name, and to vote for the Democratic candidate. And that goes for everyone else.

Whether it is the high-spanic Bushie running for Texas Land Commissioner or the right-wing high-spanic running for Harris County Treasurer, the bottom line is that Republicans have proven to be toxic in 2014, especially against the poor, infirm, of color, women, the disabled, etc., and high-spanic Republicans are even more dangerous. In the case of these races, I urge you to vote for John Cook for Texas Land Commissioner, and my friend David Rosen for Harris County Treasurer. They are the best choices in these races, so it should be a no-brainer, anyway.

In areas in which I do not reside, but you might, please vote:  Luis Lopez for Texas House District 132, Re-Elect Mary Ann Perez in Texas House District 144, and Amy Perez for Texas House District 150.

From the top to the bottom of the ballot, the Democratic Party offers strong candidates who will serve Texas and Harris County well. I don’t support them just because they are Democrats, but because they offer solutions to the challenges faced by Texas. Wendy Davis is looking toward the future; Leticia Van de Putte is an exceptional leader who will ensure the Texas Legislature works for all Texans; Sam Houston is the only choice for Attorney General who will defend the rights of all Texans; as Texas Comptroller, Mike Collier will be an accountable and responsible steward of our tax dollars and investments; John Cook, as Land Commissioner, will protect the public lands which generate revenue for our public schools; and my friend Steve Brown will bring transparency to the Texas Railroad Commission.

While we have a strong statewide slate, we cannot forget about the rest of the ballot. Decisions are made in our local courts that affect us all. We must re-elect Justice Jim Sharp to the 1st Court of Appeals; send good folks like Judge Steven Kirkland, Ursula Hall and Jim Peacock to the district courts (just to name a few); or my friends Kathy Vossler and Tracy Good to the Family and Juvenile Courts;  or another friend, Raul Rodriguez to the County Court. There are so many to mention, but they would all serve offering fairness and justice for all.

And still, there are other positions, such as Ann Bennett who will protect our voting rights as County Clerk. Or keeping and sending, respectively, Deb Kerner and Melissa Noriega on/to the Harris County Department of Education Board of Trustees. And let’s not forget Jim Cargas for Congressional District 7! There are a lot of names on the ballot, and many I missed here, but I support all the Democrats.

I have no problem whatsoever voting a straight Democratic ticket in 2014. And neither should you. The future of Texas is at stake, and voting for Republicans will only continue setting us back decades. We must move forward, and the only chance of that happening is with a Democratic slate.

Added Guidance from a Trusted FB friend:

Please remember to vote in the Lone Star College System elections, too. If you vote ONLY a straight party ballot, you will miss them. Please vote YES on the bond; Art Murillo, Alton Smith, and Dom Bongiorni (District 3, 4, and 9) for trustees.

Van de Putte: Rape is Always Rape

In her latest ad, Leticia Van de Putte calls out Dan Patrick’s opposition to abortion even for rape and incest, as well as votes against funding for the backlog of rape kits. Whether it’s women, Latinos and immigrants, or school kids, Dan Patrick is wrong on every issue. Give it a watch and share it!
