Lifecycle Shale GHG Emissions from Shale Gas: More bad news for Big Gas

by TXsharon on July 1, 2011

in GHG

Shale gas full-cycle GHG emissions are higher than those of coal when comparing both the existing electricity generating fleets and best-in-class electricity generation technologies for both fuels over a 20-year timeframe basis, but are lower than those
of coal on a 100-year timeframe basis. This has significant policy implications for utilizing natural gas as a “transition” fuel to a low carbon future in mitigating near-term GHG emissions.

In case you haven’t noticed, the Big Gas Mafia is no longer calling natural gas a “bridge” or “transition” fuel. Now it’s a “foundation fuel.”

PLEASE NOTE: This does not mean that I or anyone I know advocates the use of coal over gas. Choosing between coal or gas is like choosing between brain cancer or pancreatic cancer. Neither are desirable or acceptable.

SolarCity

Some solar panels now have a one-year payback. More on that later.
