Denton’s Day of the Dead festivities come alive

Ghouls, goblins and ghosts gathered around Hickory and Industrial streets on Saturday to celebrate the Denton Day of the Dead Festival.

In its fourth year, the free festival combines aspects of a fall harvest festival, the Día de los Muertos festival in Latin America and, of course, Halloween. Dentonites were treated to food, arts and crafts, music and a pumpkin patch.

In addition, attendees could participate in a hot salsa cook-off, twilight parade and the crowd favorite coffin boxcar races.

The Denton-based musical “Cirque Du Horror” taunted and terrified the massive crowd gathered on the Square.

Proceeds from these events were donated to a local charity.
