The Mean Green volleyball team is now on a two game winning streaking after defeating Florida Atlantic University in four sets (23-25, 25-23, 25-17, 25-21) at home Friday night.

FAU (15-7) took a three point lead after a kill from outside hitter Kristi Tekavec, which led to the first timeout called by North Texas. After the timeout the Mean Green (14-9) responded with an attack by junior outside hitter Carnae Dillard and a service error by FAU, but North Texas would end up losing the first set.

“I think we played well, I think both teams played well in the first set,” head coach Andrew Palileo said. “We just gave them a couple of opportunities in the beginning and in the middle of that set and they took advantage and we still almost got them.”

The Mean Green bounced back in the second set, and was led by freshman middle blocker Amanda Chamberlain. She had seven kills and a block in the second set, and the Mean Green evened the match at 1-1.

“It feels really good to be an important asset to the team and to the match point which is really helpful.” Chamberlain said. “At the half coach said we really had to come out and fight and the team that’s gonna win is the team that makes the least offensive errors.”

The Mean Green buckled down in the third set and began to use attacks from Chamberlain and Dillard to pull away. The team ended up winning the third set 25-17, which was the biggest margin of victory in the game.

“We have been overcoming some really hard times,” freshman defensive specialist Meredith Bramer said. “Today we just brought it all out and played for each other.”

The Mean Green controlled much of the fourth set, but FAU battled back to tie the game at 20.  However, the Mean Green eventually pulled away and won the set 25-21, to win the game.

The Mean Green will return to action on Sunday at 1 p.m. against Florida International University at home.
